CUSD’s new family resource center opens February 19
Claremont Unified School District hosts a public ribbon cutting for its new student and family resource center at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 19 at 120 W. Green St., Claremont.
The center, located at Oakmont Outdoor School, will be a “confidential, non-threatening environment where CUSD students and families can receive direct support services,” CUSD Superintendent Jim Elsasser wrote in an email. Services will include mental health counseling, therapeutic art activities, support for CUSD foster kids, homeless, and recently arrived immigrant families, a computer lab, and a therapeutic garden. It will also serve as a site for Oakmont school councils and other workshops and meetings.
It was funded in part by a $29,413 Tri-City Mental Health Services’ Student Services Act Sub-Grant and will be overseen by CUSD Senior Liaison for Family and Youth Services Rosa Leong.
