Homeless count postponed due to fires
This year’s Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count has been postponed for at least 30 days due to fires in Los Angeles County.
“The recent wildfires have created significant challenges and disruptions across the region, including evacuations, displacement of individuals experiencing homelessness, and disruptions to essential supportive services,” read a post atclaremontca.gov/news-articles. “LAHSA determined that conducting the point-in-time count under these circumstances would compromise both the safety of participants and the accuracy of the data collected.”
Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority made the announcement January 10.
The annual homeless count aims to calculate the number of unhoused people in LA County. The data is used in part to allocate federal, state, and local resources and services.
The rescheduled date will be posted at claremontca.gov when it is announced. Volunteers can still register to participate in the count at count.lahsa.org. Email questions to mcastillo@claremontca.gov.
