Midsummer Shakespeare Festival opens next week
Ophelia’s Jump Productions’ annual Midsummer Shakespeare Festival opens Thursday, July 11 with an 8 p.m. performance of Francis Beaumont’s “The Knight of the Burning Pestle” at Pomona College’s Sontag Greek Theatre, near 300 E. Bonita Ave., Claremont. Directed by Caitlin Lopez, “The Knight of the Burning Pestle” repeats July 13, 19, and 21.
At 8 p.m. Friday, July 12 OJP Founding and Artistic Director Beatrice Casagrán directs a bilingual adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” called “La Tempestad.” It features original music by Arturo Stable and Andres Vadin and choreography by Kati Hernandez. More 8 p.m. productions take place July 14, 18, and 20.
The venue will open early to accommodate picnickers. Concessions include craft beer, wine, and snacks. Pre-show entertainment kicks off at 7 p.m. Festival sponsors include Pomona College and Discover Claremont.
Tickets are $40, $25 for students with ID and children under 10. A pass for both shows is $70.
