Police nab 12 men in prostitution sting

Last Friday in a multiagency effort, the Claremont Police Department arrested 12 men for soliciting prostitution in a special enforcement detail along Indian Hill Boulevard and the 10 Freeway.

In addition to Claremont, the detail included officers from the Glendora and Upland police departments and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigation. Police also received assistance from the management of Claremont’s Motel 6.

“The Claremont Police Department had received multiple complaints from residents, business owners, and passersby regarding prostitution in the immediate area,” according to a press release from Claremont police.

During the enforcement detail five undercover officers posed as sex workers and solicited the “Johns” who sought “to engage in commercial sexual acts.” After soliciting the undercover officers, the men were subsequently arrested by other undercover officers for misdemeanor soliciting a “prostitute” for sexual acts.

In addition to the misdemeanor solicitation charge, Pomona resident Maher Salama, 64, who had previously been convicted of sexual battery, was also charged with being out of compliance with his mandatory sex registrant conditions.

Jeremiah Amado Salcedo, 33, of Big Bear was arrested for the solicitation and for a Texas sex crime warrant. He is being held pending extradition to Texas

The other 10 arrestees were identified as: Edgardo Fernando Lopez Hernandez, 46, from Tujunga; Billy Joe Torres, 36, from Claremont; Jose Manuel Orozco Barriento, 48, from Fontana; Jaime Fierros, 37, from Fontana; Trevon Michael Lofton, 30, from La Verne; Renardo Carrillo Martinez, 22, from Rialto; Jonathan Everett Manpioper, 25, from Anaheim; Reymundo Alvarado Galvan, 25, from Jurupa Valley; Jason Daniel Doe, 37, from Pomona; and Anthony Frank Coleman, 41, from Covina.

With the exception of Salcedo, the other men were booked and later released with citations to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
