Kudos to the ‘newspaper people’
Dear editor:
My highest compliments to publisher Peter Weinberger and editor Mick Rhodes for their wonderful essays about the Courier staff, including the phenomenal Dee Proffitt, who happens to help me submit my annual income tax report.
My mother was for many years employed by many newspapers, as was her older brother and their father as well as his seven brothers. For a while, my father and my uncle owned a small newspaper. From family stories I am aware of some of what it meant to them to be newspaper people.

The department of DJT
Dear editor:
DOJ=DJT: The U.S Department of Justice is no longer for the American people. It is a department for Donald J. Trump.

I’ll take what she’s having
Dear editor:
What’s all this fuss about health insurance and rising premiums? John Doe, Plain Jane, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Citizen Kane should all have the same free health insurance Congressman Peter has, Congressman Paul has, and Congresswoman Mary has. Stop blowing in the wind. If it is good enough for one American, it is good enough for all Americans.

Trump marking his territory
Dear editor:
It seems like Trump is trying to add his name to everything now. He reminds me of a dog that lifts its leg to mark every tree, bush, hydrant and lawn he walks past.
This behavior is simply pathetic. The latest insult is to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts building in Washington D.C. This was built as a memorial to the slain president.
Any person with a shred of decency should be appalled at the mere suggestion of adding Trump’s name to this building. It is akin to renaming the Lincoln Memorial the “Trump-Lincoln Memorial.”
Trump would likely never have any group want to memorialize his time in office so instead he installed sycophants onto the Kennedy Center board and surprise, surprise, they voted to do his bidding.
How great is it that several performers have already cancelled scheduled shows at the Center? Maybe they can still book Kid Rock or Ted Nugent (yawn).
Trump has never shown any sign of supporting the arts and has probably never been a part of the social circles that do. Like most of us I’m sure they find him brash, classless, tacky, uncultured, and simply embarrassing. Well now he can sit in his box at the center, eating his Big Mac and looking out at a half empty theater while he watches some C-level performers. Cool.
You will be able to time with a stopwatch how long Trump’s name will remain on anything the second he is out of office. The sooner the better.
