Neil O’Dwyer passed away on August 23, 2024 in Limerick, Ireland while visiting family.

and friends. Born on August 13, 1935 in Clonkelly, Ireland, Neil led a multifaceted life marked by his service as a Catholic priest, a business executive, volunteer, family man and dedicated sportsman.

Neil’s early education was at Roscrea and St. Joseph’s Cistercian Abbey School in Ireland, followed by higher studies at St. Patrick’s College in Thurles. His career was diverse, starting with 15 years in the priesthood in Southern California, after which he transitioned from various jobs to become the head of Equine Affairs at the Los Angeles County Fair and Showgrounds, demonstrating his capacity to blend spiritual leadership with secular management.

Known for his warm, engaging wit and caring nature, Neil was a “Man for all Seasons,” loving, considerate, and a great listener and confidante to many.

His life as a sportsman included being an avid hurler in his home county of Tipperary and golfer with memberships at Via Verde, Glendora and Red Hill Country clubs.

Beyond sports, he was deeply committed to charity, volunteering pro bono on multiple boards and taking a special interest in those challenged by addiction.

Neil is survived by his wife, Michelle; children Nick, Jonathan and Jenny; and his six beloved grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister Marie, mother-in-law Evline, sisters-in-law Joni and Gina, brother-in-law Robert and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers Brian and Jack, Pam O’Dwyer, and sisters Breda and Joan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Red Hill Country Club. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pomona Valley Hospital or IVRS, Inland Valley Recovery Services, an addiction treatment center in Upland.

Neil’s legacy of compassion, community involvement and extraordinary presence will be remembered by all who knew him.
