Obituary: Patricia Joy Pruden
Patricia Joy Pruden, a Claremont resident since 1965, died peacefully the morning of May 8. She was 84.
Born July 6, 1936, in Johannesburg, South Africa, she immigrated to the United States with her mother at the age of 10. She graduated high school shortly before turning 16, and then entered nursing school at Sacramento City College, eventually becoming a pediatric nurse.
“Pat” married Donald Mohr in 1958, and together they had four children, all of whom attended Claremont schools. In later years, after divorcing, she raised her children while also working to earn her master’s degree in early childhood education from Mt. San Antonio College.
She worked for many years as a child development administrator in the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District; the majority of her professional life was spent as an advocate for children.
For many years around Claremont she could be seen walking her golden retriever, Winston. Her bright smile and kind eyes were a welcoming beacon to friends and strangers alike.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arno.
She leaves behind her four children, Don (Christine) Mohr, Hilary (Joe) LaConte, Andrew Mohr and Stacey Mohr-Conley; as well as grandchildren Elias, Alexander, Daniel, Noah, Aaron, Grace, Sir Thomas and Sir John.
