Obituary: Sandy Deon Hoy
Beloved grandmother, daycare business owner
Sandy Deon Hoy, age 78, of Cerritos, California, died peacefully on May 4.
Born on April 18, 1947, in Compton, California, to Zelma and Emerson Dolan, Sandy grew up with a deep love for family, learning, and laughter. She married Jack William Hoy and together they shared 25 years.
She began her professional career as a secretary at Byron Jackson, but her most fulfilling work came later when she joined up with her beloved mother, Zelma, to run a home daycare business. “Sandy poured her boundless warmth and kindness into caring for children, becoming a nurturing presence for many families in the community,” her family shared.
Naturally curious and thoughtful, she had a lifelong love for archaeology and psychology. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to earn an AA degree in psychology from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
“Sandy will be remembered for her gentle strength, sense of humor, and generous heart,” her family said. “She loved watching her ghost shows, Ancient Aliens, and the evening news with a good cup of coffee, and ice cream of course. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren, who brought immense joy and pride to her life. She was very special to all of us.”
She is survived by her children, Tim and Teri; her cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Kevin, Tyler, Johnny, Sara, and Emily; and her loving daughter-in-law, Anna.
“Sandy’s warmth, generosity of spirit, and humor will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her,” her family added.
