Obituary: Stuart Oskamp
40 year Claremont Graduate University professor, author, editor
On Monday morning, September 19, Stuart Oskamp died at Mt. San Antonio Gardens in Pomona.
“Stu” earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Stanford University in 1960. He taught for 40 years at Claremont Graduate University, from 1960 to 2000. He loved to write, authored several books, and served as an editor for many publications.
He continues to contribute to learning as he leaves us, as he and his wife Catherine Cameron donated their bodies to science. Their ashes will be interred together at Oak Park Cemetery in Claremont.
He is survived by his children Karen Still, David Oskamp, Cathy Carruthers, and Rob Arnott; and grandchildren Jake Bohn, Max Moodie, Ty and Toby Still, Robin and Richard Arnott, Sydney Rangle, Dr. Julia Cameron-Morrison, and Adrian Bentley.
His family is grateful to the community. “People have talked about how much they enjoyed his classes and how helpful he was with their academic work,” his family shared. “At the Gardens, people mentioned his kindness and the funny songs he sang to make people laugh.”
A memorial celebration will take place in January.
