Obituary: Yolanda Villanueva Lobo

Arbol Verde native, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt

Yolanda Villanueva Lobo died peacefully in her Arbol Verde home on November 2. Ms. Lobo, a life-long Arbol Verde east barrio resident, was 76 years old.

Ms. Lobo was a descendant of Leonardo and Petra Gutierrez, early pioneers who settled in the Upland section of the Arbol Verde east barrio at the turn of the 20th century. She was born on May 21, 1949 in Upland and attended Upland schools. She was a devout Catholic and made all her sacraments at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Claremont.

In 1966, she married Richard Lobo of Montclair, and their union produced one daughter, Nellie Lobo Garcia. After their divorce, she was involved in a loving relationship with Manford Edens, which produced a son, Max Edens.

Ms. Lobo was a homemaker who made fresh flour tortillas every morning for her family. She worked at General Dynamics in Pomona, TRW in La Puente, Molina Medical, and successfully retired from the State of California Department of Corrections as a personnel analyst.

“She always had a cheerful smile with her big dimples,” her family shared. “She enjoyed life to the fullest and adored her family, especially her two young grandchildren, Ava and Greyson.”

Ms. Lobo is survived by her brothers Al and Steve of Arbol Verde, and Rolando of Rancho Cucamonga; children, Nellie of Rialto and Max of Arbol Verde; and grandchildren Ava and Greyson. She was loved by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Nellie Gutierrez Villanueva, sister Emily Villanueva, common-law companion Manford Edens, and her father, Alfonso Villanueva.

A public viewing will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, November 18 at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N. Garey Ave., Pomona, CA 91767. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, with a memorial Catholic Mass to follow at 10:30, at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 435 Berkeley Ave., Claremont, CA 91711. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity.
