Linda Emmersen-Hill

Teacher, loving mother, grandmother

Linda Faye Emmersen-Hill died peacefully at her home in Cayucos on April 30, 2015. She was 74.

Linda was born in September of 1940 to Arnold and Gertrude Emmersen of Kingsburg, California. After graduating from Kingsburg High School, she attended Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, graduating in 1964 with a degree in home economics.

Shortly after graduation, she married and started a family of her own, eventually, settling in Claremont, where she lived for nearly 30 years. Ms. Emmersen-Hill worked at Citrus College’s Child Development Center as a preschool teacher and parent educator for 25 years. She left a legacy of parents and children who benefitted from her love and hard work.

Upon retirement, she fulfilled her dream of returning to the Central Coast and settled in Cayucos. She made many new friends in the community including members of her wine club group and the local garden club. Above all, Linda loved her family. She raised three sons and was always involved in their school functions and sports teams and was a leader in many of their activities. Eventually, her grandchildren became the center of her life. Whenever possible she was on the sideline of their sporting events, present at school performances and activities and always a big part of their celebrations. She was incredibly proud of all of them and they brought great joy to her life.

Ms. Emmersen-Hill is survived by her sister, Nancy, and brother-in-law Jerry Fry; her sons Craig (Jane), Kevin (Elaine) and Brian (Christi); her grandchildren Ryne, Ann, Kevin, Emmersen, Jake and Eli; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial with friends and family to celebrate Ms. Emmersen-Hill’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, June 28 at the Cayucos Veterans Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to Jack’s Helping Hand or other local organization to benefit children.
