Obituary: Frieda Earl Yakish
Teacher, mother, volunteer
A memorial service for Frieda Earl Yakish is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 at The Social Center at Mt. San Antonio Gardens, 900 E. Harrison Ave. Ms. Yakish died October 3, 2016. The family asks attendees to please wear bright colors.
Ms. Yakish taught kindergarten and first grade for 22 years while raising five children in Massachusetts, California and Connecticut. After retiring from teaching, she continued to be involved in her new community of Claremont. Her work included volunteering in schools and being active with Claremont Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and singing in the choir. She also worked with Claremont Meals on Wheels for 10 years, including serving as the charity’s president. Later in life, Ms. Yakish was active in various groups in her retirement community of Mt. San Antonio Gardens.
Ms. Yakish is survived by her children, Jim Earl of Carson City, Nevada; Jean Cox of Seattle, Washington; Elaine Callahan of Kent, Washington; Janet Earl of Bozeman, Montana; and Joy Cull of Santa Monica, California. She is also survived by six grandchildren; and two stepchildren and their families in Waterloo, Iowa.
