Orion “Von” Von Stetten died August 6, 2017, surrounded by his family, following a six-year battle with cancer. He will especially be remembered with fondness by family and friends for his quick jokes and wry sense of humor.

Born in Los Angeles on March 31, 1932, Von lived his early years in Ojai, California, then moved to Manila in the Philippines with his father at the age of seven. From 10 to 13 years old, he was a Japanese prisoner of war along with his father, stepmother and brother at Santo Tomas University, Manila. Following liberation led by General MacArthur on February 3, 1945, he and his family were repatriated to Oakland, California, where he spent his teenage and early adult years.

During his years in the US Army and following as a Civil Service employee, Mr. Von Stetten worked as a photo lithographer at the Presidio in San Francisco. He met his future wife while in the Bay Area and in 1960 they moved to Southern California, where he resided until his death.

Besides working professionally in both sales and real estate, he was also active artistically, having served both as gallery chairman and president of the Pomona Valley Art Association. He was also a participating artist with Gallery 333 in Claremont.

A 40-year member of The Claremont Club, Mr. Von Stetten was involved in many Club activities, especially racquetball, which he continued to enjoy and play at TCC into his 80s.

Mr. Von Stetten is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sally; his daughter Krista; his son Jeffrey; his brothers Eric and David; and his sister Helen Marie. Another sister, Rosemary, preceded him in death.

Services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 22 at 1 p.m. at Todd Memorial Chapel, 570 N. Garey Ave., Pomona, followed by a celebration of life at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, 1500 N. College Ave., Claremont.
