Beloved wife, mother, devoted grandmother, talented designer, lover of the outdoors

Jacqueline “Jackie” Biere Snyder, a 41-year resident of Claremont, died November 7. She was 79.

A lifelong Californian and a Claremont resident since 1978, Jackie was born to Charles Joseph and Eva Etta Biere on May 17, 1940, in Altadena. She grew up in Azusa alongside her older sister Barbara and younger siblings Judy and Chuck, and graduated from Monrovia High School.

She met her husband, Jack, in 1968 while working at Cary Instruments in Monrovia. They married in 1969. This past July, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and dear friends. They shared a deep and loving relationship.

“A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who were fortunate to have her in their lives, Jackie was a very caring and giving person who listened to everyone, and she was extremely thoughtful about making everyone feel loved,” her family shared.

She was an avid reader and was known for her many talents. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, painting, baking and cake decorating. She spent many years making beautiful wedding cakes and planning weddings. In the late 1980s and well into the 1990s, she worked as a floral designer in La Verne and made custom baskets at Mother Hubbard’s Gourmet Cupboard in downtown Claremont. 

Ms. Snyder’s love for the outdoors and for the country’s national parks began from an early age when her father would take the family on road trips to visit any number of them. She continued this tradition with her own children, camping and exploring the United States throughout the years. 

She is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Snyder; daughter, Karen Sulzer of Claremont; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff (Kristen) Snyder of Manhattan Beach; daughter and son-in-law, Christine (Shane) Page of San Clemente; grandchildren, Randy Sulzer (Crystal Gonzalez) of Santa Clarita, Reese and Chloe Snyder, and Jack and Lauren Page; great-grandchildren Lilly and Layla Sulzer and Aidan Franks; sisters Barbara (Arnold) Lane and Judy Couch; and brother, Chuck (Francine) Biere.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 22, at Todd Memorial Chapel, 325 N. Indian Hill Blvd., Claremont.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation in Ms. Snyder’s name be made to the National Park Service at joshuatree.org/support/in-memory-of-donations.html She was particularly fond of Joshua Tree National Park.
