Police blotter: August 23, 2024

Wednesday, August 14
Claremont Police Department officers responded to the Seaver House, 305 N. College Ave., at 8:42 a.m. regarding two men fighting. When police arrived, one of the men took off running. After falling, police were able to detain the man, Ruben Lerma of Upland, 36, and arrested him for misdemeanor resisting arrest. Lerma was taken to the CPD jail to be booked and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

Police made their way to Chevron gas station, 267 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 2:39 p.m. following the activation of its robbery alarm. The clerk said a man had pushed him and then went outside to break a window on his car. Arriving officers spoke to the suspect, who was standing outside the gas station, and arrested 34-year-old Claremonter Sal Jaramillo for felony vandalism and misdemeanor battery. He was booked at CPD and later released him with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

Thursday, August 15
At 11:09 a.m., police conducted a welfare check on a man sleeping in the playground area of Griffith Park, 1800 Woodbend Dr. A records check revealed a felony Claremont warrant. He was arrested, transported to CPD for booking, and held for court. After appearing hours later at Pomona Superior Court, he was released.

Police traveled to Vons, 550 E. Base Line Rd., at 12:44 p.m. following reports of a woman not paying for her groceries and attempting to flee the scene in a car. Police later caught up to the driver, Dajah Snell, 29, of Los Angeles, and pulled her over. Snell was subsequently arrested for shoplifting and driving without a license, both misdemeanors, transported to CPD for booking, and later released with a citation to appear in court.

 Friday, August 16
Officers ran the license plate on a car parked at Shell gas station, 747 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 3:59 a.m. A records check on the car’s owner, Pomona resident Nathan Jones, 40, revealed an outside felony warrant from San Bernardino County. Jones was arrested for the warrant, booked at CPD, and later taken to West Valley Detention Center ahead of a court appearance. He was released from custody on August 19.

 Police report that over a period of time, a private citizen posing as an underage person exchanged messages with 65-year-old Los Angeles resident Roger Dyer. A meeting at 570 W. Bonita Ave. — Claremont Police Department — was arranged, and at 7:03 p.m. Dyer was arrested for contacting a minor to commit a felony and arranging meeting with minor for lewd purpose, both felonies. He was booked and transported to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles. He appeared for arraignment in Pomona Superior Court August 20 and was released. Dyer is due back in court October 2.

 Saturday, August 17
Officers went to Denny’s, 820 S. Indian Hill Blvd., at 3:11 a.m. following reports of a domestic disturbance between a man and a woman. Witnesses told arriving officers the pair had prevented people from calling 911. Police spoke to a 37-year-old Mesa, Arizona man, who asserted he called CPD to report the 37-year-old Clovis, California woman he was with had hit him. The woman told police the man was her pimp and that he had assaulted her, leaving her with visible injuries. A records check of both revealed outstanding warrants: one for the man and three for the woman. Police arrested both, the man for felony domestic violence and pimping and pandering, and the warrant; the woman was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery and the warrants. Both were also charged with misdemeanor obstruction of a communication device as they allegedly prevented people from calling 911. They were booked at CPD and held for court. Following court appearances, the woman was released on August 18, the man on August 19.

Around 8:19 p.m., police traveled to the Claremont Villas Senior Apartments, 100 S. Indian Hill Blvd., on a report of a suspicious person. Police ran a records check on a 58-year-old unhoused man which revealed a misdemeanor warrant from Claremont. Police said he was also intoxicated and unable to care for himself. He was arrested for misdemeanor drunk in public and the warrant, transported to CPD for booking, and held for detoxification. He was later released with a citation.
