Police Blotter: August 25, 2023

Monday, August 14
After receiving a report from Los Angeles County Adult Protective Services regarding possible abuse at the location, Claremont Police Department officers went to the 300 block of Utah Court at 8:53 a.m. and arrested Claremont resident Elton Cannon, 51, for felony elder abuse likely to produce great bodily injury, and misdemeanor financial abuse. Police allege Cannon was making unauthorized charges on the elderly resident’s credit card and was stealing the victim’s medication. He was arrested, taken to the Claremont jail, and held for court.

 

Thursday, August 17
Police were called to the 100 block of S. Indian Hill Boulevard at 12:20 a.m. about a fight between a 38-year-old Victorville man and his girlfriend. Police report the female was hit in the face and had a visible injury, but the male fled the location before officers arrived. The officers were able to locate the man a short distance away and he was arrested for felony domestic violence. He was transported to the Claremont jail where he was booked and held until he could be transferred to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles, where he was held for court.

Officers responded at 10:30 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 1300 block of N. College Avenue about a reported burglary. Police said an unknown suspect unlocked a rear sliding door to one of the apartments, entered the unit, and stole several items before fleeing undetected. Police had no suspect information.

 

Friday, August 18
At 12:59 a.m. police responded to the 200 block of Meredith Street about two people fighting in the residence’s front yard. When officers arrived, they determined a 52-year-old Claremont man had struck a woman, causing an injury. He was arrested for felony domestic violence and child endangerment because children had allegedly witnessed the altercation and taken to the CPD jail, where he was booked and later released on bond.

 

Sunday, August 20
One of Claremont’s automatic license plate reader cameras captured an image of a car that had been reported stolen. Officers caught up with the vehicle at 12:36 p.m. in the 2200 block of E. Base Line Road and pulled over the driver, Los Angeles resident Donya Gantt, 31. He was arrested for felony grand theft auto and taken to the CPD jail, where he was booked and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court. The vehicle was towed and the owner was notified of its recovery.

Officers responded at 11:25 p.m. to a call about a burglary at the Claremont city yard, 1616 Monte Vista Ave. It’s alleged Shaleah Guerrero-Haskins, 24, entered the facility through a temporarily opened vehicle access gate then entered a building through an unlocked side door and climbed a 170-foot tall communications tower. When police ordered Guerrero-Haskins to come down she complied and was taken into custody, charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor trespassing. She was taken to the Claremont jail and held for court.

 

Monday, August 21
Police were called to the 500 block of W. San Jose Avenue at 12:16 a.m. about a person shooting a gun in the rear yard of a residence. When officers arrived the suspect had fled, but police were able to locate the man and conducted a traffic stop. Police said the driver, Claremont resident Emmanuel Ruiz-Gonzalez, 42, displayed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol and was in possession of a loaded gun. He was arrested for carrying a loaded firearm and driving under the influence of alcohol, both misdemeanors, and transported to CPD jail. Ruiz-Gonzalez reportedly provided a chemical sample, was held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
