Police Blotter: August 30, 2024

Monday, August 19

At 5:49 p.m., Claremont Police Department officers responded to where the train tracks intersect with South Cambridge Avenue regarding a man loitering behind a house nearby. Police ran a records check on the 46-year-old unhoused man which revealed he had a misdemeanor warrant from Claremont. He was arrested, booked at CPD, and held for court. He appeared at Pomona Superior Court on August 20 and was released.

 

Tuesday, August 20

After connecting online, a juvenile girl met with a 19-year-old South American man at Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., on July 20, where the man allegedly performed sex acts with the girl. Police were called to the scene at 5:30 p.m., but the man fled before they arrived. The girl was reunited with her family shortly after. Following an investigation, on August 20 police set up a surveillance detail outside the man’s Los Angeles area home. He was later arrested on three felony counts of  lewd and lascivious acts against a minor, oral copulation with a minor, and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He was then brought to CPD, booked, and held for court. He was moved to Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on August 23 and is due at Pomona Superior Court, Department N, on October 9.

Police responded to the 1300 block of N. Towne Avenue at 2:47 p.m. after a business called to report a man was throwing himself on the ground. A records check of the 32-year-old unhoused man turned up a misdemeanor warrant from Pomona and another from San Bernardino County. He was arrested, booked at CPD, at later released with citations.

Police responded to the intersection of Claremont and Foothill boulevards at 9:01 p.m. where two vehicles had collided, leaving two people injured. Police questioned one of the drivers, Fontana resident Destinee Vallejo, 27, who allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol before the accident. Police attempted to conduct sobriety tests, but her injuries prevented her from completing them. Vallejo and the driver of the other car were transported to a local hospital, where Vallejo was determined to be driving under the influence and a blood sample was obtained. After detoxification she was released from the hospital and police arrested her for DUI causing injury and DUI with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher, both felonies. She was then booked at CPD and held for court. She was later released and appeared at Pomona Superior Court on August 22.

 

Thursday, August 22

On August 21, police responded to a 9:30 p.m. call from a woman who reported that her boyfriend, a 48-year-old Claremont man, had assaulted her at her home on the 700 block of Baylor Avenue, leaving visible injuries. While police were doing a follow-up investigation the following day at her place of employment, the alleged assailant showed up. Officers attempted to question him, but he took off running. After he was caught, the man is said to have attempted to fight, but was overpowered by police and security officers. Between August 21-22 police allege he made physical threats. He was arrested for spousal assault, domestic violence, stalking, criminal threats, and resisting a peace officer, all felonies, and battery and resisting a peace officer, both misdemeanors. He was taken to CPD jail for booking and held for court. He was released on bond on August 27 and is due at Pomona Superior Court Department T on October 8.

 

Saturday, August 24

Officers were called to the 700 block of Via Montevideo in the Claraboya neighborhood at 1:58 a.m. because a bear had wandered into a home. News reports from the incident said an occupant of the house spotted the bear near the kitchen freezer before it fled. No injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.

Police responded to the 100 block of S. Cambridge Avenue at 4:53 p.m. after someone called to report a person yelling. When officers arrived, a man took off running. A woman at the scene described the man to police, who later found Upland resident Timothy Munoz, 39, in the 300 block of Indian Hill Boulevard. A records check showed he was in violation of a court order for allegedly being near the woman who had provided the description. He was arrested, booked, and held in front of an August 28 Pomona Superior Court appearance. After his arraignment he was transferred to Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.

Tuesday, August 27

Officers responded to AM/PM, 701 E. Foothill Blvd., at 1:40 a.m. after getting a report of a man drilling a hole in the coin holder of the air pump at the location. Arriving officers questioned Eugene Little, 58, of Riverside, who was allegedly in possession of a vacuum and a warm drill bit that matched the hole in the coin holder. Little allegedly removed $17.75 in quarters from the machine. He was arrested for petty theft and vandalism, both misdemeanors, brought to CPD for booking and held for court. He was later transported to Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles. He was due to appear at Pomona Superior Court August 29.
