Wednesday, November 27
Claremont Police Department officers recognized a 27-year-old unhoused man from previous encounters and stopped to question him in the 800 block of south Indian Hill Boulevard at 2:55 a.m. A records check revealed a misdemeanor Los Angeles County warrant, and he was arrested, booked at CPD, and appeared at West Covina Courthouse later that day, where he was given a 90-day sentence. He was transported to the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on December 2.
Upland police called CPD at 1:56 p.m. to report it had Upland resident Walter Canar Suarez, 64, in custody, who had two misdemeanor warrants from Claremont and Baldwin Park. Claremont officers then took custody of Canar Suarez, booked him at CPD, and held him for court. He appeared at Pomona Superior Court December 2, given a 514-day sentence, then transported to Men’s Central Jail in LA December 3.
Police responded to a residence in the 900 block of Newberry Lane after a 10:52 p.m. call regarding a domestic violence dispute. Officers determined a 36-year-old Claremont man was the aggressor, and, after he was allegedly uncooperative, he was arrested for domestic violence and delaying or obstructing a peace officer, both misdemeanors. The man was booked at CPD and later transported the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles pending court. He appeared at Pomona Superior Court December 3 and was put on probation. He’s due back at the courthouse on March 3, 2025.
Friday, November 29
Police pulled over Pomona resident Frank Barraza, 33, for alleged equipment and moving violations at 1:33 a.m. near Towne and Bonita avenues. After field sobriety tests he was arrested for misdemeanor DUI. A records check revealed Barraza had two misdemeanor warrants and a suspended license, and a search allegedly turned up cocaine, leading to additional misdemeanor charges for the warrants, driving on a suspended license, and possession of a controlled substance. He was transported to CPD, booked, but failed to provide a chemical sample, which led to another misdemeanor charge of violating a court order. He was held at CPD jail in front of his December 3 arraignment at Pomona Superior Court, after which he was released.
A 911 call from someone saying they were the victim of an assault led police to a residence in the 3900 block of Northampton Avenue at 11 p.m. Officers spoke with two people and arrested a 29-year-old San Jose, California woman for misdemeanor domestic violence. She was then booked at CPD and held for court. She was released on bond on December 1 and appeared at Pomona Superior Court December 3.
Saturday, November 30
Police responded to the former Casa Jimenez location at 921 W. Foothill Blvd. at 10:16 a.m. after a 911 call reporting two people were inside the building. Arriving officers detained Denise Trinidad, 33, of Paramount, and later found her alleged accomplice, 28-year-old Francisco Gutierrez of San Bernardino a short distance away. The property owner confirmed the pair were not authorized to be there, and they were arrested for felony burglary. Gutierrez received an additional misdemeanor charge of resisting or delaying an officer for fleeing. Both were booked at CPD. Trinidad was released with a citation. Gutierrez was held in front of his December 3 appearance at Pomona Superior Court, then transferred to the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on December 4.
Officers stopped Pomona resident Bryan Mendez, 34, for an alleged moving violation at 10:33 p.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Williams Avenue in Pomona. After field sobriety tests he was arrested for misdemeanor DUI, booked at CPD, held for detox, and later released with a citation.
Sunday, December 1
Police pulled over a driver near Foothill and Indian Hill boulevards at 10:46 p.m. for alleged equipment and moving violations. They questioned the driver, a 30-year-old Pomona man, who had children in the car. After field sobriety tests he was arrested for DUI and child endangerment, both misdemeanors. A records check also revealed a misdemeanor Los Angeles County warrant and a suspended license, which added two more misdemeanor charges. The children were released to an adult at the scene. The man was arrested, booked at CPD, and held pending a magistrate review. He was released December 3 and is due back at Pomona Superior Court January 9, 2025.
