Tuesday, February 18
The Claremont Police Department received an 8:40 a.m. call from Los Angeles Airport Police reporting they had 32-year-old Fontana resident Richard Garcia in custody, who had a felony warrant out of Claremont. Garcia was transported CPD where he was booked, arraigned at Pomona Superior Court, and released on bond. He is due back in court April 2.
Claremont Colleges Campus Safety officers recognized 37-year-old Robert Johnson, of West Covina, in the 800 block of Columbia Avenue and called CPD at 10 a.m. Arriving officers questioned Johnson, who had previously been advised to stay out of the area. Campus safety officers signed a private persons arrest, and he was arrested for misdemeanor trespassing, transported to CPD, and released with a citation.
Wednesday, February 19
Police were called to a homeless encampment in the 100 block of W. San Jose Avenue at 8:30 a.m. There they questioned a 32-year-old homeless man, and a records check revealed a felony LA County warrant. He was arrested, transported to CPD, booked, and held for court. He was transferred to North County Correctional Facility in Castaic on February 23 and is due to appear in Central Arraignment Courthouse in Los Angeles on March 10.
Thursday, February 20
Police responded to the 1500 block of N. College Avenue at 9:15 a.m. after receiving calls about a suspicious person. Officers questioned a 35-year-old homeless man, and a records check showed he had two misdemeanor San Bernardino County warrants and a felony no-bail LA County warrant. He was arrested, transported to the Claremont jail, booked, and held for court on the LA County warrant. He appeared Monday at Central Arraignment Courthouse in LA and was sentenced to 65 days in jail. He was transferred to North County Correctional Facility in Castaic on Tuesday.
Police were called to the scene of a two-car collision in the 500 block of S. Mountain Avenue at 6:30 p.m. Arriving officers said one of the drivers, Claremont resident Matthew Henderson, 45, showed signs of impairment. After field sobriety tests he was arrested for felony DUI as the crash injured the other driver involved. Henderson was transported to the Claremont jail where he was booked, detoxed, and held for court. He appeared at Pomona Superior Court February 24 and was released.
Friday, February 21
Police stopped 28-year-old Pomona resident Alexis Pedroza for vehicle code violations at 12:20 a.m. near Foothill Boulevard and Towne Avenue. After field sobriety tests, Pedroza was arrested for misdemeanor DUI, transported to CPD, booked, held for detox, and later released with a citation.
Saturday, February 22
Police responded to a 2:35 p.m. call about a suspicious person near Marion Drive and San Jose Avenue. Officers spoke with a 50-year-old homeless man who was found to have a misdemeanor Ventura County warrant. He was arrested, transported to CPD, booked, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
A person flagged down police about 5:40 p.m. to report a homeless encampment going up in the 300 block of E. First Street. Officers went to the area and questioned a 32-year-old homeless man who they say did not cooperate with their orders, which led to his arrest for resisting, delaying or obstructing a peace officer, a misdemeanor. He was transported to CPD, booked, and released with a citation.
Police responded to a business in the 700 block of S. Indian Hill Blvd. at 9:45 p.m. after calls alleging a man had committed sexual battery and forcefully moved one person there from one location to another. Officers spoke with witnesses, then questioned Kamau Ross, 21, of Pomona, a short distance away. Ross was arrested for kidnapping and attempted rape, both felonies, and transported to CPD where he was booked and held for court. He was transferred to Men’s Central Jail in LA on February 23 and appeared at Pomona Superior Court Tuesday.
