Wednesday, January 17
The Upland Police Department contacted the Claremont Police Department at 10:23 p.m. to report that they had Chad Stopyak, 34, of Chino in custody and that he had a felony warrant in Claremont. Claremont officers responded to the Upland police station to arrest Stopyak and returned him to the Claremont jail where he was held for court.
Thursday, January 18
Officers on patrol at 12:36 a.m. report noticing a man riding a bicycle against traffic in the middle of the roadway on Foothill Boulevard, and pulled over Monrovia resident Anthony Luera, 40. A records check revealed he had a misdemeanor and a felony no-bail warrant. When officers searched Luera they allegedly found a methamphetamine pipe. He was arrested for misdemeanor possession of narcotic paraphernalia and the warrants, and taken to the Claremont jail, where he was subsequently booked and later transferred to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles on the warrant.
Police responded to the 900 block of Arrow Highway at 12:35 p.m. after being alerted that a man with a court order barring him from the area was at the location. Officers contacted a man and a woman, and a records check revealed the 33-year-old Pomona man had an active restraining order. He was arrested and taken to the Claremont jail, booked, and later released with a citation.
At 5:09 p.m. police were called to the 100 block of First Street about a fight on a Foothill Transit bus. According to the victim and a witness, 45-year-old Patricia Paul wrapped an object around her hand and hit the victim multiple times during the altercation. Paul was subsequently arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and mayhem, transported to the Claremont jail, booked, and later released because of a medical condition.
Police were called to Claremont City Hall, 207 N. Harvard Ave., at 7:18 p.m. about a report of smoke coming from the public restroom. Officers questioned Steve Hardy, 32, of Claremont inside the restroom and said multiple trash cans were on fire, causing damage to the restroom. He was arrested for misdemeanor reckless burning and was taken to the Claremont jail, where he was booked and released with a citation.
Friday, January 19
Police patrolling Foothill Boulevard at 2:17 a.m. pulled over a driver near Towne Avenue for an unknown violation. After questioning the driver, Vivian Torres, 30, of Fontana, officers suspected she might be driving under the influence of alcohol. After performing field sobriety tests she was arrested for misdemeanor DUI. Police said her passenger, a 31-year-old Fontana woman, was also intoxicated and unable to care for herself, and so she too was arrested on a misdemeanor drunk in public charge. Both women were taken to jail, booked, held for detoxification, then later released with citations.
Saturday, January 20
At 12:25 a.m. police were called to the 300 block of Yale Avenue about man who had allegedly been assaulted with pepper spray. When officers arrived at the scene they detained San Bernardino resident Carl Patterson, 35. Through their investigation police determined Patterson had allegedly used pepper spray on another person so he was arrested for misdemeanor assault. He was taken to the Claremont jail where he was booked and held for court.
