Friday, December 19
Claremont Police Department officers stopped a 27-year-old Inglewood man for equipment violations near Foothill Boulevard and Mills Avenue at 2:13 a.m. A records check revealed he had been driving on a suspended license. During the stop, officers noticed a passenger in the back seat holding a child. After field sobriety tests the driver was arrested for misdemeanor DUI, child endangerment, and driving on a suspended license. He was transported to Claremont jail, booked, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court. The child was released to a family member.
Saturday, December 20
Police stopped a driver for not having license plates at 3:40 p.m. near Towne Avenue and Amador Street. A records check of the 32-year-old Pomona man showed a misdemeanor warrant from Los Angeles County. During his arrest he allegedly told officers he had a gun in his car, and they then found a loaded black handgun. He was arrested on the warrant and for misdemeanor carrying a loaded firearm in public, transported to Claremont jail, booked, and held for court. He was released December 23 after being arraigned at Pomona Superior Court. He is due to appear at West Covina Courthouse on February 20.
Thursday, December 25
Police responded to a 2:53 p.m. call about a disturbance at Shelton Park at Bonita and Harvard avenues and spoke with two men. A records check revealed one of the men had an active protective order against the 46-year-old Pomona man he was with. He was arrested for misdemeanor violation of a protective order and transported to CPD, where he was released for medical reasons after booking.
Friday, December 26
Police spoke with a 22-year-old Ontario woman in the parking lot of Blaisdell Community Center, 440 S. College Ave., at 1:36 a.m. and allege the woman had a nitrous oxide tank, commonly known as “laughing gas,” and used balloons in her car. Officers said she was unable to care for herself and arrested her for misdemeanor possession of nitrous oxide and disorderly conduct. She was transported to the Claremont jail, booked, held for detoxification, and released with a citation.
Sunday, December 28
Police responded to an 8:42 a.m. domestic violence call from Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. Arriving officers spoke with the reporting party, determined an incident occurred, and arrested a 27-year-old Pomona man for misdemeanor domestic violence. A records check also showed a misdemeanor Los Angeles County warrant. He was transported to the CPD, booked, and held for court. He was released after a December 30 appearance at Pomona Superior Court.
Wednesday, December 31
Officers responded to a call from the 400 block of W. Bonita Avenue at 3:45 a.m. and arrested a 39-year-old Claremont man for misdemeanor domestic violence. He was subsequently booked at CPD, held for court, and released after appearing in Pomona Superior Court later in the day.
Thursday, January 1
Claremont officers stopped a motorist for moving violations at 3:02 p.m. at Monte Vista Avenue and Claremont Boulevard who did not have a driver’s license, but identified himself as a man with a misdemeanor warrant out of Long Beach. He was arrested and transported to CPD. During booking police learned he was actually a 47-year-old Bellflower man, a convicted sex offender who had not renewed his registration status since 2006, and had a no-bail felony warrant out of Redondo Beach PD. He was arrested for the warrant, felony failing to register as a sex offender, felony false impersonation, and misdemeanor driving without a license, and held for court. He appeared in Pomona Superior Court January 5 for a preliminary hearing, where his request to be released on his own recognizance was granted. He is due back in court February 4.
At 6:24 p.m., a witness told police they saw two juveniles inhaling nitrous oxide from a tank in a car parked outside Little Caesars Pizza, 336 S. Indian Hill Blvd. Officers questioned the juveniles and a 20-year-old Pomona woman who claimed ownership of the nitrous oxide tank. Police allege the woman was intoxicated and could not care for herself, and arrested her for misdemeanor possession of nitrous oxide and disorderly conduct. She was transported to the Claremont jail, booked, held for detox, and released with a citation. The juveniles were released at the scene.
Friday, January 2
Officers responded to a 1:33 a.m. burglary alarm activation at Chevron, 267 S. Indian Hill Blvd. Using a witness description, police located the suspect, a 26-year-old South Dakota man, nearby. He was arrested for felony attempted commercial burglary, transported to the Claremont jail, booked, and held for court. He was released later that day after being arraigned at Pomona Superior Court.
CPD responded to a 3 p.m. two-car non-injury collision in the 1300 block of N. Towne Avenue and questioned one of the drivers, a 40-year-old Fontana man who had two children in his car. After field sobriety tests he was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and child endangerment, transported to the Claremont jail, booked, held for detox, and later released with a citation to appear in court. The children were released to a family member at the scene.
