Police Blotter: July 21, 2023

Tuesday, July 11
At 4:41 p.m. Claremont Police Department officers were called to the Dollar Tree, 342 S. Indian Hill Blvd. about a person at the store who allegedly shoved an employee. Arriving officers questioned Montclair resident Gabriel Alvarez, 42, and a records check showed he had a warrant in San Bernardino County. He was arrested, taken to the Claremont jail where he was booked and later transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

 

Wednesday, July 12
Police were called to Courier Place, 111 S. College Ave., at 8:09 a.m. about a person allegedly trespassing at the apartment complex. When officers arrived, they located Pomona resident Andrew Perez, 27, sleeping near the community pool, whom they recognized from previous trespassing incidents. During questioning they learned he had outstanding warrants. Perez was arrested for trespassing and the warrant and was taken to the police station, where he was released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

At 5:20 p.m. police were called to the 700 block of Bonita Avenue about an apparent fight between a man and a woman inside an apartment at the location. Police said the victim filed a confidentially form, so details about the case are limited. A 41-year-old Claremont man was arrested on felony domestic violence charges. He was taken to the Claremont jail where he was booked and held for court.

 

Friday, July 14
An unknown suspect used a large object to shatter the glass front door of a business in the 1400 block of N. Claremont Boulevard about 2:52 a.m. The thief then stole an unknown quantity of equipment. The police have no suspect description at this time but are continuing their investigation. If you have any information, please call Claremont police at (909) 399-5411.

Police were called to the corner of Indian Hill Boulevard and Wagner Drive at 5:47 p.m. about a solo vehicle collision. Arriving officers reported discovering the car had hit both the curb and a sign. After contacting the driver, 36-year-old Regina Chambers of Upland, officers suspected she might be intoxicated. There were children in the back seat of the car as well who received minor injuries. Chambers was arrested for felony DUI causing injury, and two misdemeanor charges of child abuse. She was taken to the CPD jail where she was booked and held for court.

At 8:19 p.m. police pulled over 28-year-old Christian Ochoa of Pomona for a traffic violation. While speaking with Ochoa police suspected he might be intoxicated, and a records check revealed he was driving on a suspended license. He was arrested for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and for being an unlicensed driver. His car was towed and impounded for 30 days. Ochoa was taken to the Claremont jail where he was held for detoxification and later released with a citation to appear in court.

 

Monday, July 17
At 8:19 p.m., Claremont’s license plate reader camera at Indian Hill Boulevard and San Jose Avenue registered a positive hit for a car reported stolen in Pomona. An officer responded to the area and spotted the car near the intersection of Indian Hill and Arrow Highway. The officer followed the driver and conducted a felony car stop at the Walmart parking lot at 778 E. Arrow in Pomona. As the officer was giving verbal commands to the suspect, Rowland Heights resident Jose Espinosa Sanchez, police said the 39-year-old man attempted to run from the scene. Officers were able to arrest him following a short foot pursuit. He was charged with felony grand theft auto, felony possession of a stolen vehicle and misdemeanor resisting arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant in Los Angeles County. He was transported to the Claremont jail where he was booked and held for court.
