Wednesday, July 17
Claremont Police Department officers pulled over Pomona resident Alexis Mendoza, 26, along the 500 block of Towne Avenue at 12:22 a.m. for a vehicle code violation. Police said he displayed symptoms of alcohol impairment and conducted field sobriety tests. Mendoza was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence. A records check then revealed he had a misdemeanor warrant from San Bernardino County, and had been driving on a suspended license, which resulted in police adding misdemeanor driving with a suspended license to his charges. Mendoza was taken to CPD to be booked and to provide a chemical sample. After detoxing, he was released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Police responded to a 9:54 p.m. call for service regarding vandalism in progress in the 1700 block of north Indian Hill Boulevard, where they arrested Aidyn Snelson, 21, of Claremont, and 22-year-old Brandon Zambrano of La Puente for felony vandalism. They were transported to CPD for booking and later released with citations to appear in court.
Thursday, July 18
For the third week running CPD’s “bait bike,” a poorly secured bicycle fitted with a tracking device, netted an arrest. Police got an alert at 4:07 a.m. that the bike was moving from its location in the 900 block of west Foothill Boulevard and allegedly found a 30-year-old Claremont man Anton Demidov riding it, and stopped him. He was arrested for felony attempted grand theft, and a search allegedly yielded methamphetamine and a meth pipe, which resulted in possession of a controlled substance and possession of unlawful paraphernalia, misdemeanors, being added to his charges. He was then booked at CPD before being released with a citation.
Police responded to a 2:51 p.m. call regarding a family disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of Oakdale Drive. When they arrived, the reporting party made various allegations against a 28-year-old Pomona resident Joshua Pagler who police later arrested in Pomona for vandalism and attempted assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies, and for misdemeanor elder abuse. He was booked at the CPD jail then released pending further investigation.
Saturday, July 20
Police got a call at 3:07 a.m. about a solo traffic accident near the intersection of Armstrong Drive and King Way. Arriving officers found a car that had apparently hit a shrub and then collided with a block wall. Officers questioned the driver, Yucaipa resident Joanna Lopez, 19, and say she displayed symptoms of impairment. After field sobriety tests she was arrested for misdemeanor DUI and booked at CPD, where she provided a chemical sample. After detoxing, she was released with a citation.
Claremont police responded to La Perla Tapatia Meat Market, 214 W. Foothill Blvd., at 3:50 a.m. to investigate a burglary, and discovered a shattered glass window at the business. There were no suspects inside and about $200 had been stolen from the register. An investigation is ongoing.
About 20 minutes later, officers responded to Sanamluang restaurant, 710 S. Indian Hill Blvd., regarding a burglary alarm activation. Arriving officers found the front door glass had been shattered, but again, the suspects had fled, this time without taking anything. The crime was captured on surveillance video, with the suspects described as two men with thin builds wearing dark clothing. An investigation is ongoing.
Sunday, July 21
At 9:56 p.m. CPD received a call about two cars that had crashed near Indian Hill Boulevard and San Jose Avenue. When officers arrived, they questioned the parties involved and allege one of the motorists, Ontario resident Manuel Gabriel, 41, displayed symptoms of impairment, and conducted field sobriety tests. He was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor DUI and taken to CPD to be booked and to provide a chemical sample. After detoxification, Gabriel was released with a citation.
Tuesday, July 23
Police responded to the 900 block of west Arrow Highway at 12:27 a.m. after getting a call about a disturbance. Upon arrival, police questioned the parties involved and ran a records check of Upland resident Ameyatzin Gomez, 26, and found that he had a misdemeanor warrant out of Los Angeles County. He was arrested and booked at Claremont jail before being released with a citation.
