Tuesday, May 28
Claremont Police Department officers were called to the area near Mountain Avenue and Via Santa Catarina at 7:38 a.m. regarding a car that had crashed into a hillside. The witness described two men leaving the vehicle and walking into the adjacent wilderness. When police arrived, they located a backpack near the car that allegedly contained narcotics, burglary tools, and ammunition. A license plate check of the car revealed it had been reported stolen. CPD and Upland police then deployed K-9 units to search for the two suspects, Los Angeles residents Kevin Estrada, 23, and Dennys Delcidchumil, 28, who were found not far from the crash site. Police said a search of Estrada’s backpack turned up more burglary tools. A records check on Delcidchumil revealed misdemeanor warrants. Police arrested him for possession of a stolen vehicle and grand theft auto, both felonies, and for the misdemeanors of possession of burglary tools, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, delaying or obstructing a police officer, hit and run, and for his warrants. Estrada was arrested for felon in possession of ammunition, auto theft with a prior, possession of a stolen vehicle, and grand theft auto, all felonies, and for misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, presenting false ID to a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, and hit and run. Both were transported to CPD for booking. Delcidchumil was released with multiple citations to appear in court. Estrada was held in front of his May 30 arraignment hearing in Pomona Superior Court, after which he was released. He is due back in court July 24.
Thursday, May 30
Police on patrol at 1:48 a.m. noticed a woman sleeping near Chevron/McDonald’s, 860 S. Indian Hill Blvd., and struck up a conversation. A records check of the 21-year-old unhoused woman revealed misdemeanor warrants from Claremont and San Bernardino County. She was arrested for the warrants, booked at CPD, and given a citation to appear in court for the Claremont warrant. She was then transported to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga and was granted a court order release the following day.
Police responded to a 4:34 p.m. call at Wells Fargo, 203 Yale Ave., about a woman causing a disturbance and refusing to leave. Arriving officers questioned Vanessa Hilo of Lomita, 33. After suspecting she was under the influence of a controlled substance, a search allegedly turned up a methamphetamine pipe. Hilo was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and possession of unlawful paraphernalia, both misdemeanors, booked, then held for detoxification before being released with citations to appear in court.
Friday, May 31
At 9:35 a.m., police went to the 1200 Block of Fort Lewis Drive on a report of a domestic violence. Officers questioned a woman outside a home who said she was involved in a relationship with the suspect, a 48-year-old Claremont man, who had allegedly pushed her. The man was found at the same location and arrested for misdemeanors domestic violence and child abuse, the latter charge due to the couple’s child being present during the alleged altercation. The man was booked at CPD then transported to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles pending court. He was released on bond June 4 and is due back in Pomona Superior Court June 25.
Saturday, June 1
CPD responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle near Mountain Avenue and Via Santa Catarina and pulled over a car matching the description at 4 p.m. The driver, Francisco Pascual, 41, of Rancho Cucamonga, did not have a license, so he was arrested for misdemeanor driving without a license and his car was towed. After booking at the CPD jail he was released with a citation.
Police near Indian Hill Boulevard and Auto Center Drive say they noticed Georgina Gutierrez of Glendora, 32, driving while not wearing her seat belt and pulled her over at 6:40 p.m. A records check revealed a misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernardino County, so she was arrested, booked at CPD, and released with a citation to appear in court.
Sunday, June 2
Police pulled over 45-year-old San Dimas resident Fernando Espinosa near Base Line Road and Towne Avenue at 12:36 a.m. for a moving violation. Officers allege Espinosa displayed symptoms of being under the influence. After administering field sobriety tests, he was arrested for misdemeanor driving under the influence and booked at CPD, where police say he refused to provide a chemical sample. Officers obtained a warrant for a blood sample, but the man still refused, so police added misdemeanor contempt of court to his charges. He was held at CPD jail in front of his June 4 arraignment in Pomona Superior Court, where he was granted release.
Police responded to multiple 10:20 a.m. calls regarding a domestic violence incident at Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. Arriving officers found a woman outside bleeding from her face and a 33-year-old Walnut man still inside a motel room with his dog. Police say the man was using the dog as a shield, which led to their use of force in an effort to detain him. A records check then revealed one felony warrant and one misdemeanor warrant out of San Bernardino County. A search of the man’s backpack allegedly turned up methamphetamine, a meth pipe, and bank cards that were not his own. The man was arrested for domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon, both felonies, as well as misdemeanors possession of narcotics, possession of lost property, possession of unlawful paraphernalia, and child abuse, due to a juvenile being present during the alleged altercation. After booking at the Claremont jail, he was transported to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles to await his Thursday arraignment in Pomona Superior Court. The dog, apparently unharmed, was given to a friend of the couple’s following the incident.
