Police Blotter: October 27th, 2023

Tuesday, October 17
The Claremont Police Department responded to Fourth Street at Columbia Avenue at 8:20 p.m. to investigate a reported robbery. A male victim was walking in the area when three suspects approached him, and during a verbal fight demanded the victim’s jewelry. The situation escalated into a physical altercation and the victim sustained minor injuries. Through their investigation, police were able to identify one of the assailants as Ontario resident Justin Noriega Riviera, 19, who was arrested for felony robbery the next day. He was taken to the Claremont jail and booked. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Wednesday, October 18
A resident in the 400 block of Indian Hill Boulevard called the police at 8:17 a.m. to report a stolen vehicle. The caller told the police that sometime between 11 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday someone had taken a white 2015 Kia Optima which was parked at their home. The Kia was entered into a law enforcement database as a stolen car and Pomona police recovered it the next day. Police say they have no suspect information but the car was returned to its owner.

At 3:17 p.m. officers responded to the 500 block of W. Foothill Boulevard after somebody called to report a man was looking into the backyards of several residents. Police detained Armando Pilotin, 25, of Pomona because he matched the caller’s description and a records check showed he had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was taken to the Claremont jail where he was booked and later released with a citation.

 

Friday, October 20
A person went to the Claremont police station at 10:27 a.m. to report that someone had stolen their airline frequent flyer rewards. The suspect accessed the victim’s American Airlines account and used 11,000 reward points, a value of approximately $325 to make an unknown purchase. The investigation is ongoing and there is no confirmed suspect information available at this time.

At 3 p.m. The Diamond Center, 147 N. Yale Ave., was once again hit by would-be smash-and-grab robbers. Two suspects entered the store with hammers and pepper spray and one employee was hit with pepper spray while the other suspect attempted to shatter glass displays containing jewelry. The glass did not break and the suspects fled the location, joining a third suspect who was waiting outside the business. All three suspects then ran to a waiting vehicle and fled north on Yale Avenue. The suspects who entered the business were wearing ski masks and there was no suspect identification information on the getaway driver or the car. The investigation is ongoing.

 

Saturday, October 21
Officers responded to the 900 block of Olympic Court after a woman called police to say she had been hit by her husband. Upon arrival officers made contact with the couple and their toddler child and said the woman had visible injuries. Police arrested the 37-year-old Claremont man for felony domestic violence and misdemeanor child abuse because the toddler witnessed the fight. The man was transported to the CPD jail where he was booked and held for court.

 

Sunday, October 23
At 3:44 a.m. two unknown suspects used a rock to break the front glass door of Juice It Up, 448 Auto Center Dr., and proceeded to rob the store’s safe. Police say the suspects stole money from the safe and fled the location. There is no suspect information at this time.
