Police Blotter: September 1, 2023

Monday, August 21
Claremont Police Department officers on patrol at 12:51 p.m. on 11th Street near Indian Hill Boulevard pulled over Altadena resident Horace Wormely, 38, for a moving violation. During questioning officers learned Wormely had a warrant, and asked him to get out of his car. Police said they then saw the handle of a gun on the floor of his vehicle. Wormely was arrested for the warrant, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a loaded firearm, all misdemeanors. He was booked and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

 

Thursday, August 24
Police were called to a home in the 300 block of Seventh Street at 7:19 a.m. about a man sleeping in a back house at the residence. When officers arrived, they say Rodney Edinbyrd, 58, of Claremont was still there. A records check showed he had a no-bail felony warrant, and he was arrested for misdemeanor trespassing and possession of drug paraphernalia as well as the warrant. He was transported the Claremont jail where he was held until he could be transferred to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.

Police responded to The Claremont Club, 1777 Monte Vista Ave., at 7:22 a.m. because a service vehicle had been stolen. The investigation is ongoing, and police have no suspect information. If you have any information, please call Claremont police at (909) 399-5411.

At 8:53 a.m. police were called to a home in the 2300 block of Forbes Avenue about possible domestic violence. Arriving officers reported finding an elderly man they say had been hit on the head and then locked out of his home by a younger man. After questioning, the younger man was arrested for misdemeanor elder abuse. He was transported to the CPD jail where he was booked and later released with a citation to appear in court.

Police responded to the 700 block of Alamosa Drive at 12:37 p.m. about a possible burglary in progress. The homeowner said the home’s surveillance video feed showed someone creeping around the backyard. When officers arrived, they found Claremont resident Jennifer Ramsey, 55, still hanging out behind the home. She was arrested for misdemeanor trespassing and was transported to the Claremont jail where she was booked and later released with a citation.

Officers on patrol at 11:45 p.m. questioned San Bernardino resident Jayesh Patel, 42, who was walking outside a business in the 300 block of Arrow Highway. Police say he consented to a search, and a records check revealed he had both felony and misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested on the warrants and taken to the Claremont jail where he was held for court.

 

Friday, August 25
At 12:50 p.m. police were called to Sprouts parking lot, 835 W. Foothill Blvd., about a possible theft. A male victim reported that a woman placed a fake gold necklace on his neck and in the process removed a real gold necklace he was wearing. Police do not have a suspect information, and the incident is still under investigation. Similar sleight of hand jewelry thefts plagued Claremont earlier in the year, and police advised people to be wary if someone offers to place a ring or necklace on you as a “friendship” offering. Police pulled over 45-year-old Baldwin Park resident Hector Aguilar on Base Line Road near Towne Avenue at 3:35 p.m. after one of Claremont’s license plate reader cameras flagged his car as stolen. During their investigation police learned Aguilar also had misdemeanor warrants. He was arrested for the warrants and felony grand theft auto and was transported to the CPD jail where he was booked and held for court.

At 10:32 p.m. police responded to Towne Avenue at the 210 Freeway about a possible car fire. After the blaze was extinguished by the fire department police learned that the vehicle had been abandoned. It was later towed.

 

Saturday, August 26
Police we called to Dartmouth Avenue and Platt Boulevard regarding a stolen golf cart. Responding officers located the cart and arrested a juvenile from La Verne for felony grand theft auto. The case is now in the hands of the juvenile division at the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office.

 

Sunday, August 27
Police responded to the 400 block of First Street at 11:38 p.m. about a possible domestic battery. When officers arrived, they questioned the couple and through their investigation determined the male was the primary aggressor. He was arrested for felony domestic violence and transported to the CPD jail where he was booked and held for court.
