Police Blotter: September 15, 2023

Wednesday, August 30
Claremont Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of W. San Jose Avenue at 6:53 p.m. regarding a traffic collision. Upon arrival, police located a car that had crashed into a utility pole and contacted its sole occupant, Covina resident Arthur Valdiva, 48. Officers said he appeared to be intoxicated, and conducted field sobriety tests that showed Valdiva was DUI. He was arrested and transported to the Claremont jail where he was booked and held for detoxification, and later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.

Officers responded to Rocky Liquor, 1045 W. Foothill Blvd., at 7:44 p.m. regarding a man trespassing at the location. While searching the area, officers located Jose Arellano, 38, of Pomona lying in a traffic lane on Towne Avenue just south of Foothill Boulevard. A records check showed Arellano had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested for the warrant, booked, and later released with a citation to appear in court.

 

Thursday, August 31
At 5:03 p.m. police were called to the Chevron McDonald’s, 860 S. Indian Hill Blvd., about a fight in progress. Arriving officers allegedly saw three people fighting in the parking lot. After breaking up the fight, officers learned two of the combatants were in a dating relationship, and one of them, a 23-year-old female Claremont resident, was arrested for felony domestic violence. She was transported to the Claremont police department, booked, and held for court. She was later released on bail.

 

Saturday, September 2
Officers conducting extra patrol at 12:12 a.m. at the Joselyn Center, 660 N. Mountain Ave., say they saw a 35-year-old unhoused man outside the restrooms at adjacent Larkin Park. A records check revealed he had an outstanding felony warrant. He was arrested, taken to the CPD jail, and later transported to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga where he was held for court.

 

Monday, September 4
At 12:04 a.m. police were called to the 500 block of Wayland Court regarding a family disturbance. Officers questioned a man and woman at the location and after separating the two learned that the man, Alejandro Quintero, 30, of Commerce, had a court order prohibiting him from being at the Wayland residence. He was arrested for misdemeanor violation of a stay away order and transported to the Claremont jail where he was booked and later released after posting bond.

 

Tuesday, September 5
Officers responded to the 100 block N. Indian Hill Boulevard at 5:01 p.m. for a report of a suspicious person. Police questioned Garland, Texas resident Carlos Olivo, 33, a short distance away. A records check revealed he had a full extradition warrant for a parole violation in the Lone Star State. He was arrested and transported to West Valley Detention Center to await extradition.

 

Thursday, September 7
At 8:19 p.m. officers pulled over 35-year-old Montclair resident Brandon Kelly at Mills Avenue and Oakdale Drive. A records check revealed he had an outstanding felony warrant, and he was arrested and transported to the West Valley Detention Center where he was held for court.

 

Sunday, September 10
Officers responded to the 800 block of S. Indian Hill Boulevard at 9:13 p.m. after receiving a 911 call about a traffic collision in the area. When police arrived, they found a car “high centered” on the median between traffic lanes. They questioned the driver, Ontario resident Joshua Bliss, 41, and say he appeared to be intoxicated. Bliss allegedly refused to perform field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI and transported to the Claremont jail, where he submitted a chemical sample. He was held for detoxification and later released with a citation to appear in court.
