Police blotter 3-24-17
Wednesday, March 15
Police are looking for whoever stole more than $1000 in power tools from a car on the 1500 block of Finecroft Road. The theft occurred between 4:15 p.m. on March 15 and 6 a.m. March 16, when two thieves, described only as a Caucasian man and a Hispanic man, broke into a Toyota Matrix and stole the tools, according to Lt. Mike Cizsek of the Claremont Police Department. Around 10 a.m. on March 16, the suspects apparently returned to the scene to get additional stolen items that were hidden in a nearby yard. The victim called out to them and the suspects ran, jumping over a wall into a nearby apartment complex.
Thursday, March 16
Nine units were burglarized at the Extra Space Storage on Arrow Highway, and police are trying to figure out who is responsible. The theft occurred between 2 a.m. and 10 a.m. The suspects were captured on surveillance footage entering the building and using an unknown tool to pry open the storage units. No description of the property or the value was available, nor was there any description of the suspects.

The body of a woman was discovered in a motel room at Knights Inn. Nuvia Michelle Rojas, 21, from Pomona, was found at 12:30 p.m. by the cleaning staff. Ms. Rojas died of an apparent suicide, but the official cause of death is pending due to additional investigation, according to the LA County Coroner’s Office.
Friday, March 17
A Pomona man was arrested after he was caught sunbathing on a stranger’s property. Police received a call of a trespass in progress at a home on the 300 block of Harvard Avenue around 2:30 p.m. When they arrived, they found 35-year-old Clifford Wingo bronzing in the backyard and charging his cell phone, Lt. Ciszek said. Mr. Wingo was also in possession of stolen mail from the property. He was arrested for trespassing, receiving stolen property and petty theft (for using the home’s electricity to charge his phone). There was a warrant for his arrest from San Bernardino County.

A Pomona man was arrested for DUI after stopping at an intersection for several minutes. When officers checked on the car on Auto Center Drive and Indian Hill Boulevard around 3:20 a.m., they determined the driver, 24-year-old Angel Robles, was too drunk to be behind the wheel. He was arrested and sent to CPD jail.
Saturday, March 18
Police arrested a Fontana man for being drunk in public after finding him lying in the middle of the road on the 100 block of Spring Street. Michael Turner, 29, reportedly fell down on his back when he tried to get back up. When officers asked how much he had to drink, Mr. Turner replied, “way too much.” He was arrested and sent to jail to spend a few hours in the drunk tank.
Sunday, March 19
Police are looking for three burglars who broke into a home on the 500 block of Redlands Avenue. The break-in occurred around 7 p.m., when two of the thieves entered the home through a bathroom window. Once inside, they attempted to disable the alarm, ransacked one of the rooms and fled due to a nearby police cruiser. No property was stolen from the home. Anyone with information should call the Claremont Police Department.
Monday, March 20
Two cars were broken into at the same time at the Evey Canyon turnout. The thefts occurred around 5:10 p.m., when the unknown suspects smashed the windows of two cars. One victim’s purse and phone was stolen, with a total value of $800, and another victim’s phone was stolen with a total value of $700. There is no suspect information.
