Auto accidents literally keep Claremont police hopping

Two solo vehicle crashes on Base Line Road had similar turnouts Sunday and Monday night, May 13 and 14. A 39-year-old man driving a Honda CRV drove off the road in the 1200 block of Base Line and onto a sidewalk, striking and shearing off a fire hydrant. The man admitted he had “drank too much” and after being transported to Pomona Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, was arrested for driving under the influence.

On Monday around 9:20 p.m. a 46-year-old Claremont man also drove off the side of the road near Webb Canyon, striking a tree. A passerby at the time of the incident picked up the man and drove him to his home. As police were responding to the scene, they saw the car owner walking back toward the crashed vehicle. He admitted to the crash, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested.

A 20-year-old female was arrested after crashing into a police car Saturday evening, May 12, at Towne Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. The Claremont police officer was driving south on Towne transporting an arrestee when a woman driving north made a left turn in front of him causing the vehicles to collide. Both the officer and his passenger suffered injuries and were transported to Pomona Hospital for medical attention. Both were later released. The 20 year old was arrested for driving under the influence and the Pomona Police Department is conducting further investigation.

Despite the arrest of 2 men in connection with repeat vehicle burglaries on Mt. Baldy Road, near Evey Canyon, the burglaries continue. Three more vehicles were burglarized on Tuesday, May 15, between 3:45 and 5 p.m., a similar time frame to the previous burglaries. Also similar to the previous incidents, burglars entered each vehicle through a smashed passenger window. Only one of the car owners reported that anything had been stolen. Investigation continues once again.
