Police blotter 8-10-18

Wednesday, August 1

Police are investigating a theft and other shenanigans that occurred last week at the Claremont Club. A blue plastic bin containing miscellaneous sports balls was taken from the Club between July 31 at 5 p.m. and August 1 at noon, according to Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department. There is no known value to the stolen equipment, and no suspect information was available. Earlier in the weekend, an unknown vandal threw numerous items into the Club’s pool, including an EZ-Up that was held down by weights.

A red and black men’s Huffy bicycle was taken from the porch of a home on the 200 block of Carnegie Avenue. The theft occurred between July 30 at 4:30 p.m. and August 1 at 11:50 a.m. There is no suspect information, and the value of the bike was around $450.

Thursday, August 2

Police are looking for a man who exposed himself to a woman early Thursday morning. The victim was jogging by herself in the area of Indian Hill Boulevard and Via La Selva around 6:40 a.m. when the man pulled up in his car beside her and began masturbating. He was last seen driving westbound on Colby Circle away from the scene. He was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s, and the car he was driving was a maroon Dodge sedan.

Officers were called to Padua Park around 3:30 p.m. after a witness said 35-year-old Victoria Zaleski of Pomona was “suspicious.” Ms. Zaleski was deemed to be under the influence of an unknown substance and had a warrant out for her arrest from Pomona. She was arrested and taken to CPD jail, where she received a citation for the drug charge and was held for the warrant.

Friday, August 3

A car was burglarized in the driveway of a home on the 2500 block of King Way. Around 6 a.m., a witness noticed a white car pull up to the house and a man smashing the front window and rummaging through the center console before getting away. There is no further suspect information, and the car’s owner told police nothing was taken.

Saturday, August 4

A Claremont woman was arrested for DUI after she crashed her car on the 4200 block of La Junta Drive. Police were called to the scene just before 3 a.m. when a car driven by 50-year-old Marissa Ayala apparently drove off the road. She was determined to be driving drunk, and was arrested for DUI.

An unidentified burglar broke into a laundry room in the backyard of a home on the 500 block of Blaisdell Drive. The break-in occurred between August 1 at noon and August 4 at noon. According to Lt. Walters, the burglar entered through an unlocked gate and took $20 in change and a spare house key before fleeing undetected.

Sunday, August 5

Two wedding guests ended their night on a down note after both were arrested for DUI at the Padua Hills Theater. Ryan Dietrich, 34, from Long Beach, reportedly drove into a pole as he was leaving the theater around 11 p.m., Lt. Walters said. He failed a field sobriety test, and was arrested for DUI. A second drunk driver was taken in a short time later, however, police did not provide information on that arrest.

Monday, August 6

An unidentified burglar went into a garage and an unlocked Chevy Suburban on the 600 block of Aurora. The theft occurred between August 2 and August 6, when the burglar stole a chainsaw and two floor jacks from the detached garage, in addition to miscellaneous property from the Suburban. There is no suspect information.
