Police blotter 9-21-18

Tuesday, September 11

A Fontana woman was arrested after getting caught behind the wheel of a stolen car. Police pulled over the Isuzu Rodeo around 6:30 a.m. near the Upland border after license plate readers flagged it as stolen out of Pomona. The driver, 40-year-old Jennifer Maravilla, was arrested without incident and taken to CPD jail on charges of grand theft auto, Lt. Jason Walters of the Claremont Police Department said.

A Los Angeles man was arrested for trespassing, possessing meth and a warrant after he was spotted at Pomona College’s Strehle Track. Around 3:30 p.m., Campus Safety discovered Brian Maxwell, 33, drinking a beer in a restroom, Lt. Walters said. Mr. Maxwell had a warrant, as well as a bag of meth. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Wednesday, September 12

Police arrested a man on drug charges after he was seen “acting erratic” near Dollar Tree at Arrow and Indian Hill. Around 10:20 p.m., an officer saw 30-year-old Kevin Hawkins ripping off his shirt, and later they found he was reportedly under the influence. He was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

A 17-year-old boy from Paramount was arrested in connection with a burglary at the Claremont Colleges. The burglary occurred on April 23 at 7 p.m. at Clark Hall, Lt. Walters said, when the boy allegedly removed a window screen and took a laptop and miscellaneous property worth around $500. The boy escaped, but police were able to identify him. The boy was already at Los Padrinos Juvenile Detention Facility on an unrelated incident, and he was taken to CPD jail, booked and sent back.

Thursday, September 13

Police are looking for a golf cart that was stolen out of the driveway of a home on the 500 block of W. Eighth Street. The cart, which was tan in color, was taken sometime between 8:30 p.m. on September 12 and 6 p.m. on September 13. There is no suspect information. If you saw a sketchy character whirring slowly away from the scene in a golf cart, please call the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

Two people were arrested at Pitzer College on suspicion of stealing bicycle parts. Campus Safety came upon 33-year-old Can Phao and 36-year-old Keith Guyot near the Gold Student Center around 11:50 p.m., Lt. Walters said. Police allege both Mr. Phao and Mr. Guyot were in possession of burglary tools and bike parts. Both were arrested for possession of stolen property, burglary tools and prowling. Mr. Guyot also had an existing warrant out for his arrest.

Police are looking for whoever broke into Massage Envy in the middle of the night. Around 12:30 a.m., the unknown suspects smashed the front window and ransacked the business at the corner of Base Line Road and Mills Avenue. The two burglars got away with a bag containing an unknown amount of cash, Lt. Walters said. There was no suspect information.

Police arrested a man for being drunk in public in the most obvious location—a liquor store. Around 8:30 p.m., officers were called to Rocky Liquor and found 37-year-old Brian Gonzalez at the business and too drunk to remain on the streets, Lt. Walters said. He was taken to jail to sober up.

Friday, September 14

A Pomona man was arrested for DUI after hitting a parked car and reportedly fleeing the scene. Hayden Banales, 26, allegedly hit the car on the 200 block of east San Jose around 8 p.m. and bailed from the car, along with a passenger, Lt. Walters said. Mr. Banales was caught on the 400 block of Sycamore and found to be under the influence. He was arrested for DUI and taken to CPD jail. The passenger was never found.

Saturday, September 15

A Claremont woman was arrested after allegedly scratching the side of a Toyota truck with an unknown object. Natalie Loud, 49, is accused of scratching the truck in the driveway of a home on the 700 block of Vassar around 5 p.m. Ms. Loud was identified by the victim and arrested for vandalism.

Police are investigating an apparent grand theft at the home of a recently deceased Claremont resident. Between September 8 at 7 p.m. and September 15 at 4:15 p.m., an unknown thief stole a guitar worth $1,000, a World War 1 antique rifle worth $500, and a miscellaneous amount of jewelry and metals worth around $2,000 from a home on the 1400 block of Oxford Avenue, Lt. Walters said. There were no signs of forced entry into the home, and family members have been staying there since the homeowner passed away. There is no suspect information.

Police arrested a woman for being under the influence at Harvard Avenue and First Street. Officers were called to the area around 10:45 p.m. regarding a “suspicious subject” and found 28-year-old Candace Arana, who was acting strung out. She admitted to officers that she had smoked methamphetamine a few hours earlier. She was arrested and taken to CPD jail.

Sunday, September 16

A Lynwood man was arrested for DUI after careening into a front yard at Mills and Moreno Avenues. Around 12:30 a.m. a car driven by 26-year-old Edwin Andrade collided into a driveway and launched into the front yard of a home on the 300 block of South Mills Avenue. Mr. Andrade was found to be driving under the influence, and a passenger in his car suffered bruising on the right side of his face, as well as neck and back pain. Mr. Andrade was arrested for DUI causing injury and taken to CPD jail.

Monday, September 17

Nine cars had their batteries stolen in the Metrolink parking lot. The thefts occurred throughout Monday afternoon, from 10 a.m. to 4:40 p.m., Lt. Walters said. There is no suspect information, and no further details were available at press time.
