Police blotter 2-22-19

Tuesday, February 12

Police arrested 53-year-old Jose Flores on suspicion of oral copulation on a man with an intellectual disability. Mr. Flores was arrested by Claremont PD on the 1400 block of East Elma Court in Ontario around 12:33 p.m., according to Lt. Mike Ciszek of the Claremont Police Department. The alleged incident occurred on December 20, 2018. The victim is 28 years old. Mr. Flores has been charged with one count of oral copulation with a person incapable of giving legal consent, and his arraignment will be at Pomona Superior Court on February 28.

Officers contacted 26-year-old Raymond Castro of Pomona on the 100 block of Brown Drive just before 4 p.m., and, after getting consent to search his duffel bag, found a meth pipe and a baggie of meth, Lt. Ciszek said. He was booked for possession.

Wednesday, February 13

Officers were in the Claremont Lodge parking lot just before 3 a.m. when they found a car that was reported stolen out of Montclair. Inside the car was 50-year-old Andrew Garcia of Glendora, who had a previous conviction of auto theft and was on probation. Mr. Garcia was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and was taken into custody.

Thursday, February 14

A $1,200 laptop was stolen from a car on the 700 block of Landers Circle. Around 6 a.m., the suspect shattered the rear driver’s side door of the victim’s car, got in and drove it through the apartment complex before leaving with the laptop, Lt. Ciszek said. The suspect was described as a man wearing a dark hoodie and dark hat, getting away in a newer-model dark-colored Jeep Cherokee.

Friday, February 15

Sometime on February 15, an unknown suspect pried open the driver’s side door to a black Hyundai Elantra at Claremont Hyundai and then pried open the car’s ignition in an attempt to start it, Lt. Ciszek said. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the would-be thief fled undetected. Anyone with information should call the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

Around 2:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a man jumping on trashcans on the 200 block of West First Street. When police arrived, 55-year-old Lance Rippy of Pomona was allegedly urinating on a wall of a nearby business. He was arrested for public intoxication and taken to CPD jail to sober up.

Around 9:30 p.m., a car driven by 34-year-old Alicia Morgan ran a stop sign at Foothill Boulevard and Sumner Avenue, prompting police to pull the car over. During the stop, police found Ms. Morgan of Pomona was driving with a suspended license, and a further check of the car allegedly revealed two meth pipes and a baggie containing meth, Lt. Ciszek said. The passenger, 46-year-old Albert Felix-Gaxiola, had two warrants out for his arrest. Both were taken into custody.

Saturday, February 16

Police are looking for whoever wrote racist, pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic messages on the wall of the men’s restroom at Higginbotham Park. The messages included phrases such as “kill blacks,” “sieg heil,” “Auschwitz is cool,” “666,” and a swastika written in black Sharpie, Lt. Ciszek said. The markings were discovered around 3:49 p.m, and police are treating it as a hate incident. Anyone with information should call the Claremont Police Department at (909) 399-5411.

Monday, February 18

A West Covina man was arrested for DUI after he reportedly crashed into another car at Indian Hill Boulevard and American Avenue. According to Lt. Ciszek, 27-year-old Ryan Baeza Tanahara was driving south on Indian Hill when he crashed into the car as he attempted to make a U-turn. The driver of the other car complained of pain to the neck and shoulder, and was taken to a hospital. Police determined Mr. Baeza Tanahara was driving while over the blood alcohol limit, and was arrested for DUI causing injury.
