A trio looking for a free morning buzz at Vons on Base Line Road had their plans dashed when the minor heist went south in a big way. Police say Derrick L. Holland, 59, loaded up a shopping cart with booze at about 10:30 a.m. and walked out the door without paying, triggering a call to CPD. Upon arrival, cops located Mr. Holland and his two accomplices, Ebony A. Morgan, 43, and Clayton H. Salisbury, 42, in a vehicle. Mr. Holland was arrested on a commercial burglary charge for the purloined alcohol; Ms. Morgan was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested as well, for possession of a controlled substance; and Mr. Salisbury was taken into custody for an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. All three went to jail. His cohorts were cited out, but Mr. Salisbury spent some time in the slammer.

At 11:20 a.m. police received a call regarding a fight outside of Claremont City Hall. There they arrested Adam A. Negrete, 35, on charges of disorderly conduct and being under the influence of an unknown drug. Police couldn’t say for sure, but they assume Mr. Negrete was cited and released due to his low bail amount—$30,000.

A man was spotted masturbating in the women’s restroom at Blaisdell Park, 440 S. College Ave., at about 9 p.m., but fled before he could be questioned by police. Witnesses told the cops the African American man in his 20s was last seen riding his bicycle south on College Avenue wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call the Claremont PD at (909) 399-5411.

Tuesday, June 16

At about 9:35 p.m. Claremont police received a 911 wireless call reporting a possible stabbing near the 100 block of El Camino Way. They located the victim near the Claremont Metrolink Station, and determined that an altercation had taken place between him and Adam A. Negrete, 35—the same pugilist arrested the day before for brawling at city hall. They found Mr. Negrete about 10 minutes later at 111. S. College Ave., and he was arrested this time for assault with a deadly weapon, booked and released. Police won’t say whether the victim was stabbed or not, pending further investigation and information from the hospital regarding the victim’s injuries,  but they did recover a knife at the scene.
