Claremont police get help from CHP for multi-city pursuit
On Thursday, August 20 a Chino resident led Claremont police on a multi-city, multi-agency car chase that ended with the 25-year-old man behind bars, charged with felony evasion of a police officer. It began at 1:45 a.m. near the corner of Indian Hill Boulevard and American Avenue when CPD attempted to pull over a Ford pickup driven by Dean Bentson for a traffic violation. But instead of stopping, Mr. Bentson jumped on the 10 Freeway heading west. The California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit near the 57 Freeway south. The chase continued southbound, with Mr. Bentson eventually doubling back and exiting the freeway. He eventually came to a stop in Chino Hills. The CHP arrested him there and held him for CPD, who arrived a short time later and transported him to Claremont, where he was booked for a felony evading count and an outstanding warrant out of San Bernardino County. Police say Mr. Bentson bolted in an effort to avoid facing arrest for the warrant. He was held in Claremont jail until his August 24 arraignment in Pomona Superior Court.
