Police Blotter 1-8-21

Tuesday, December 29

Claremont Police Department officers on patrol at 7:45 p.m. saw a white Toyota Camry parked at the Chevron gas station at Indian Hill Blvd. and San Jose Ave. They ran a records check on the car and discovered it had been reported stolen out of Los Angeles two days prior. The driver, Cleotilde Murillo, 30, from Pomona, was arrested for two felonies: car theft and possession of stolen car, as well as a misdemeanor charge of drug possession, methamphetamine. His passenger, 32-year-old Los Angeles resident Guillermina Ochoa, was also taken into custody for an outstanding arrest warrant from LAPD.

• Police were summoned to the laundromat in the Stater Bros. shopping center at 1055 W. Foothill Blvd. at 3:14 p.m. regarding an apparent brawl. Upon arrival they found the altercation was in fact a robbery in progress. The suspect, Michael Reading, 33, from Pomona, was allegedly “punching somebody repeatedly in the head,” according to Claremont police. Mr. Reading apparently coveted the backpack and sleeping bag of the victim, a 62-year-old Pomona man, and was attempting to take them by force. After an investigation police arrested Mr. Reading and charged him with felony robbery. The victim was not injured in the alleged assault, so no charges came of the beating. Mr. Reading was booked and held in the Claremont jail for two days before appearing in Pomona court for his arraignment on New Year’s Eve.

• A 41-year-old Claremont man was arrested for domestic violence after allegedly punching his 42-year-old female housemate in the face. The victim called police shortly before 10 p.m. from the 400 block W. Sixth St. to report the incident, which apparently arose from a verbal argument that became physical. Police said since there were no visible injuries to the woman, the alleged assailant was charged with a misdemeanor instead of a felony. The man was booked and later released after posting a $20,000 bond. He is due to be arraigned in Pomona Superior Court on April 29.

Another Claremont man, this one 38  years old, was arrested for domestic violence at 12:09 a.m. after allegedly pushing his 37-year-old wife into a wall inside their home in the 2100 block of Villa Maria Rd. A witness in the home called police. The victim suffered injuries to the back of her neck, as well as back pain, so the alleged assailant was charged with a felony. The man was booked and released after posting a $50,000 bond.
