Claremont Police received a 12:15 p.m. call from a 24-year-old Claremont woman alleging she had been the victim of domestic violence in the 400 block of Cambridge Ave. She said she had a physical altercation with a 23-year-old Eastvale man, and then attempted to contact police, but the man damaged her cell phone attempting to thwart the call. Responding officers saw the suspect walking away from the scene, and questioned and searched him and allegedly found him to be in possession of a hypodermic needle. The man was arrested on four misdemeanor counts: possession of drug paraphernalia, domestic battery, preventing a person from reporting a crime (for allegedly attempting to damage the woman’s phone), and, since a minor child was a witness to the alleged battery, willful cruelty to a child. The suspect was also on parole, so the arrest was a violation of the terms of his release. The man was booked and held in the Claremont jail before appearing for arraignment in Pomona Superior Court on January 15.

Claremont police arrested Jorge Perez Ortega, 32, from Fontana, for robbery at 11:30 p.m. on the campus of Claremont Graduate University. The alleged robbery took place earlier in front of the CGU apartments at 1435 N. College Ave. The alleged victim, a 22-year-old student, told cops that Mr. Ortega approached him as he was exercising, began cursing at him and demanded his cell phone and earbuds. Fearing for his safety, the alleged victim complied. Campus Safety officers found the suspect in nearby CGU Building C and called CPD after he was identified by the alleged victim as the perpetrator. Claremont police arrested Mr. Ortega for misdemeanor robbery. Before transporting him to the station, they returned the victim’s property to him. The suspect was then booked and released with a citation to appear in Pomona court.

A 55-year-old woman called police to her home in the 400 block of Fordham Pl. at 5:30 a.m. regarding a 31-year-old Claremont man who was there in violation of an existing restraining order. The man was arrested and booked, then transported to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles to answer for the court order violation on January 20.
A 46-year-old Pomona man was arrested at 10:46 a.m. on two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery after allegedly slapping the behinds of two women at the Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd. The women, 57 and 33, say Ernest Gardner assaulted them as he walked past them outside the motel. Arriving officers conferred with the alleged victims, who identified Mr. Gardner as the alleged perpetrator, and arrested him. The man was on probation for a previous arrest and was issued a citation for the new charges then transferred to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles to face a judge on the probation violation.
Police on patrol at 11:49 a.m.—again at the Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd.—due to the recent increase in violence and drug arrests in the area came across two Pomona men allegedly in possession of methamphetamine for sale. After allegedly finding the meth packaged for sale in a room, the officers arrested its occupants, Mateo Gonzalez, 46, and Hector Alfaro, 31. The pair were each charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance for sale. Mr. Gonzalez also had a misdemeanor warrant out for his arrest due to a probation violation stemming from a previous stint in jail. Both men were booked and released with a citation to appear in court.
Kedarious Pearson, a 27-year-old Upland man, was arrested for willful cruelty to a child, unlawful possession of a loaded handgun, and felony child endangerment after cops responded to a Good Samaritan’s 3 p.m. call regarding a man driving erratically near Base Line Rd. and the 210 freeway. Police quickly located the car in question and pulled it over near Base Line Rd. and Mountain Ave. A sobriety test allegedly revealed the driver, Mr. Pearson, was driving drunk, and, along with the loaded gun, he had two small children in the car. He was arrested on the felony child endangerment charge as well as two misdemeanors for the gun and the DUI. He was booked and held on $100,000 bail before appearing January 19 for arraignment in Pomona court.
Less than three hours later, at 5:17 p.m., another person was charged with felony child endangerment stemming from a DUI. Police received a call about a possible drunk driver in the 800 block of W. Foothill Blvd. and stopped Monica Manzo, 32, from Pomona, near Foothill Blvd. and Towne Ave. A sobriety test allegedly determined she was in fact intoxicated. She had a child in the car at the time, so she was charged with felony child endangerment and two misdemeanors, DUI, and because her driver’s license had been suspended for a previous DUI conviction, driving with a suspended license. She also had a misdemeanor warrant out for her arrest due to her previous DUI arrest. All this resulted in Ms. Manzo spending a couple days in the Claremont jail before appearing January 19 for her arraignment in Pomona Superior Court.
