Police blotter 4-2-21
Thursday, March 25
A 35-year-old Montclair resident who witnesses say hit a parked car in the Vons parking lot at 550 E. Base Line Rd. was arrested at 12:03 p.m. after police allegedly found him to be in possession of methamphetamine. A witness called the Claremont Police Department to report James Stevenson had collided with the car and a search by responding police allegedly turned up the meth. Mr. Stevenson was booked and released with a citation and promise to appear for his arraignment in Pomona Superior Court on the misdemeanor drug possession charge.
Saturday, March 27
Claremont police on routine patrol at 12:49 a.m. questioned a man and a woman parked at the pumps at AM/PM at 701 E. Foothill Blvd. A records check revealed both had warrants out for their arrest. Matthew Poprac, 35, from Diamond Bar, was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant, and for misdemeanor drug possession after a search allegedly turned up methamphetamine. The woman, Los Angeles resident Michelle Morrison, 36, had a felony warrant out for her arrest and, police say, had meth on her as well. Both were booked and spent a couple days in the Claremont jail before being arraigned in Pomona Court Monday, March 29.
Sunday, March 28
Claremont cops on patrol near Western Dental, 740 S. Indian Hill Blvd., questioned two men hanging around the business at 12:40 p.m. Police searched Brian Oldham, 46, from Rancho Cucamonga, and 29-year-old Pomonan Steve Hardy, and say both were in possession of methamphetamine. The pair were arrested on misdemeanor drug possession charges, booked, and released with citation to appear in court.
Monday, March 29
Claremont officers on the overnight shift say they saw a speeding car driven by Montclair resident Anthony Morales, 21, run a red light near Indian Hill Blvd. and San Jose Ave. at 4:35 a.m. They then attempted to make a traffic stop, but Mr. Morales sped away. A short pursuit ensued before the young man collided with a curb and his car came to a stop in the 9400 block of Felipe Ave., Montclair. Mr. Morales was then arrested without further incident, charged with misdemeanor possession of an unidentified controlled substance, and evading a police officer, a felony. He was held in the Claremont jail until his Thursday, April 1 arraignment in Pomona Superior Court.
Transient arrested/arraigned for making threats with firearm
On Saturday, March 20, at approximately 8:52 a.m., Claremont Police Officers responded to the Stater Bros Market, located at 1055 W. Foothill Blvd., regarding a report of an armed robbery. The suspect had attempted to leave Stater Bros without paying for items, but when confronted, the suspect pointed a black semi-automatic firearm at the employee threatening to shoot him. A description of the suspect, as well as photographs taken from surveillance video footage, was provided to responding officers. Through investigative means, the suspect was later identified.
On March 27, 2021, at approximately 5:25 p.m., the suspect was located in the area of Garey Ave., and Grove St., in the City of Pomona. The suspect was detained and during a search of his property, a replica handgun was located. The suspect was arrested without incident for robbery and a “No Bail” warrant, and later transported to the Claremont Police Department jail where he was booked.
UPDATE: Isaiah Porter, 21, from Rancho Cucamonga, appeared for his arraignment in Pomona Superior Court Tuesday, March 30, charged with felony robbery and misdemeanor shoplifting. Police say Mr. Porter threatened a Stater Bros. employee with a handgun after being confronted regarding food items—valued at $25—he is alleged to have stolen from the Claremont market on March 20.
