Tuesday, February 20
Claremont Police Department officers responded to a 7:56 a.m. call at Sumner Elementary School, 1770 Sumner Ave., regarding 40-year-old Pomona resident Walter Folgarsandoval, who was allegedly acting erratically near campus. Police questioned Folgarsandoval and determined he was under the influence of a controlled substance. He was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance without a valid prescription, a misdemeanor, and transported to CPD jail, where he was booked and provided a chemical sample before being released with a citation to appear in Pomona Superior Court.
Wednesday, February 21
At 3:58 p.m., CPD officers responded to a call at 21 Choices Frozen Yogurt, 460 W. First St., regarding a woman in the area causing a disturbance. After matching the suspect description given to them by a witness, police questioned 28-year-old Tyler Bell, of Lynwood. A records check revealed Bell had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant out of Pasadena. She was subsequently arrested, taken to the CPD jail, booked, and later released with a citation.
Thursday, February 22
Police pulled over 19-year-old Upland motorist Isabel Ceja for a moving violation near the intersection of College Avenue and Sixth Street in Claremont at about 10:48 p.m. Officers said Ceja displayed symptoms of intoxication, so they conducted field sobriety tests and determined she was indeed impaired. She was then arrested and transported to the CPD jail where she was charged with misdemeanor DUI, provided a chemical sample, and held for detoxification. She was later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Friday, February 23
CPD officers responded to a 9:44 a.m. call regarding a suspicious person seen defecating in the area near Slick Eyebrow Threading, 1011 W. Foothill Blvd. After matching a suspect to the description, officers questioned 40-year-old Pomonan Antonio Lopez. A records check revealed he had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant issued by Covina PD. Lopez was arrested, booked at the CPD jail, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
During a 12:05 p.m. welfare check at Motel 6, 840 S. Indian Hill Blvd., police allegedly observed 35-year-old Alejandro Contreras, of Pomona, crouching outside of a room and questioned him. A subsequent records check revealed Contreras had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested, booked at the CPD jail, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
A witness called police at 7:20 p.m. to request a welfare check on a motorist who allegedly fell asleep in her car while stopped at a light near the intersection of Bonita and Mountain avenues. Arriving officers questioned the driver, 33-year-old Ontario resident Alyssa Vasquez, and said she displayed symptoms of intoxication. Subsequent field sobriety tests allegedly confirmed their suspicion, and she was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DUI. She was taken to the CPD jail where she was booked and submitted a chemical sample, held for detox, and later released with a citation to appear in court.
Police on patrol near the intersection of Arrow Highway and Mills Avenue at about 10:18 p.m. allegedly witnessed 37-year-old Lewisville, Texas resident Silvia Canvasquez commit a moving violation and initiated a traffic stop. After questioning her, police suspected Canvasquez was impaired and asked her to perform field sobriety tests, which they say confirmed she was under the influence. She was then arrested for misdemeanor DUI and transported to the CPD jail, where she was booked and provided a chemical sample. After being held for detoxification, she was released with a citation to appear in court.
Saturday, February 24
Claremont officers monitoring traffic near the intersection of Dartmouth Avenue and Foothill Boulevard say 33-year-old Erika Paez, of Upland, committed a moving violation, and pulled her over at 12:21 a.m. They suspected Paez was under the influence and conducted field sobriety tests. Paez was subsequently arrested for misdemeanor DUI, taken to the CPD jail to detox and provide a chemical sample, and was later released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Police pulled over 33-year-old Keondre Simmons, of Pomona, for an equipment violation at about 3:30 a.m. near the 210 Freeway onramp at Baseline Road. Simmons gave officers his state ID card and a records check revealed he was driving with a suspended license, due to his privileges being revoked due to a previous DUI conviction. Police arrested him on the misdemeanor charge of driving on a suspended license and impounded his vehicle. He was booked and released with a citation to appear at Pomona Superior Court.
Police responding to a report of loud music coming from Chaparral Elementary School, 451 Chaparral Dr., at 11:34 p.m. were allegedly greeted by six people hightailing it across the parking lot toward a car. Five of the subjects made it into the vehicle, while another allegedly threw a .223 Remington rifle with its serial number scratched off, also known as a ghost gun, over a fence into a nearby yard. Police detained all six people. A search allegedly turned up a nitrous oxide tank and balloons nearby, and the hastily discarded gun. Police then cited four juveniles for misdemeanor charges of being out past curfew and released them to their guardians. A fifth juvenile was cited for two misdemeanors, violating curfew and being in possession of the nitrous oxide. Police say Carlos Perez, a 19-year-old from Pomona, claimed possession of the gun. He was booked for openly carrying an unloaded firearm, a misdemeanor, and held for court.
Sunday, February 25
Police responded to a 4:05 p.m. call regarding a person throwing rocks at vehicles at Claremont Toyota, 601 Auto Center Dr., and questioned Santos Elizondo, 27, of Pomona. A records check revealed Elizondo had an active misdemeanor warrant from Claremont PD due to previously giving a false ID to a peace officer. He was arrested for the warrant, taken to the CPD jail, booked, and released with a citation to appear in court.
