Cal Poly Pomona receives $12.5M gift

Cal Poly Pomona announced last week it received a $12.5 million gift from alumni David and Ruth Singelyn. David is the co-founder and CEO of American Homes 4 Rent.

The donation, the school’s largest gift in its history from an alumni couple, will help expand program offerings at the university’s college of business administration master’s program, formally the Singelyn Graduate School of Business.

It will also establish the first-ever deanships at the university, recognize faculty excellence with endowed professorships and fellowships, and fund scholarships “including supporting Ph.D.-track students from underrepresented groups to help further diversify its faculty,” a news release read.

“This gift is a game-changer,” Cal Poly Pomona President Soraya M. Coley said in a statement. “David and Ruth’s generosity will make an immediate impact in expanding opportunities for students, foster innovation in our academic programs and aid the university in attracting world-class teachers and scholars to our faculty.”
