Claremont Unified School District families, students, faculty and officials celebrated the opening of the new Student and Family Resource Center at Oakmont Outdoor School on February 19, capping months of planning and construction funded largely by a near $30,000 grant from Tri-City Mental Health Services.

The center is open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays by appointment, serving as an access point for wellness and educational resources for CUSD students and families with a food pantry, toiletries, blankets, pajamas, and school supplies. Amenities include desks, a reading area, a computer, and a garden.

“This center reflects our shared belief that when schools and families work together, students thrive not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well,” said CUSD Senior Liaison of Youth and Family Services Rosa Leong, who spearheaded the project. “This resource center will provide access to essential services, guidance and a welcoming place where families can find support, build relationships, and strengthen their voice within our school community. It stands as a promise that no family should have to navigate challenges alone.”

The event was attended by CUSD Board of Education Vice President Kathy Archer, board Clerk Cheryl Fiello, board member Kathryn Dunn, Claremont Mayor Jennifer Stark, City Council member Corey Calaycay, and various city staff.

The resource center is located on the east side of Oakmont Outdoor School, 120 W. Green St., with a gated entrance along the 200 block of S. College Way.
