Fall high school sports set for kickoff

Whether it be through morning team runs or afternoon heat-laden football practices, Claremont High School and The Webb Schools athletes have been hard at work over the last few weeks preparing for the 2023 fall sports season. Here’s a glimpse of what’s to come for the football, boys and girls cross-country, girls tennis, girls volleyball, girls golf and boys water polo teams.
The CHS football team opens its nonleague season at home Friday, August 18 against Diamond Ranch, then hosts Troy Friday, August 25. Kickoffs are set for 7 p.m.
Webb begins its football campaign at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 26 when it hosts Workman.
Both Claremont and Webb boys and girls cross-country teams open their seasons Saturday, September 2 at the ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational at the Pomona Fairplex.
The Claremont High girls tennis team hosts Foothill Thursday, August 31. Webb opens at Edgewood Friday, August 25. Both nonleague contests begin at 3:15 p.m.
Wolfpack girls volleyball returns with three nonleague home matchups: Wednesday, August 16, with South Hills and Thursday, August 17, West Covina; and Upland on Friday, August 18. All begin at 5 p.m.
The Gauls volleyball team welcomes Magnolia Science Academy 3 Carson for a 5 p.m. scrimmage Thursday, August 17. The team hosts Orangewood Academy at 5 p.m. August 24.
In girls golf, CHS tees off against Los Osos Thursday, August 17 at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne for a scrimmage. The Pack is back Monday, August 21 at Bear Mountain Golf Course to face Big Bear in a nonleague match. Tee times are TBD.
Webb’s golf team heads to Newport Beach Golf Course at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, August 31 for a nonleague contest with Pacifica Christian.
Webb’s boys water polo team kicks off its fall schedule by hosting Mark Keppel at 3:30 p.m. Friday, August 25, followed by another 3:30 p.m. home game against Chaffey Tuesday, August 29. Claremont meets at Alta Loma at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 27 for Palomares League action.
