Ganesha High School senior Anabelle Gonzalez, 17, is on track to earn both a high school diploma and an associate of arts degree from Mt. San Antonio College in May.
Annabelle is a product of Pomona Unified School District. She attended Arroyo Elementary School, Cortez Magnet School of Mathematics and Science, and Ganesha High, where she plays on the varsity softball team. As a freshman she joined Upward Bound, a federal college preparatory program, and pursued a degree in social justice studies at Mt. SAC.
“Anabelle represents the very best of Pomona Unified,” wrote Superintendent Darren Knowles in a statement. “Her achievement is not only extraordinary, it reflects what is possible when students are given access to opportunity, supported by strong educators, and empowered to believe in their potential. We are incredibly proud of her and excited to see all that she will accomplish in the future.”
Anabelle notes her family is her “greatest source of support” and encourages others to find people who uplift them.
She will attend the University of La Verne in the fall, majoring in physics and playing softball. She hopes to work as an engineer at space organizations such as NASA or SpaceX.
