High school sports: Webb girls continue dominance in postseason

Claremont High School

Boys soccer (10-5-3)

Calabasas snuck by hosts Claremont, 1-0, on February 13 in the second round of the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Division 3 postseason tournament. The Wolfpack beat hosts Trabuco Hills in the opening round on February 11. CHS finished Palomares League play in second at 6-2-2, 10-5-3 overall.

 

Girls soccer (9-7-5)

The Wolfpack capped their season January 30 with a 2-2 tie at home against Ayala. Claremont finished fourth in the Palomares League at 3-4-3, 9-7-5 overall.

 

Boys basketball (14-14)

CHS ended its season on a high, snapping a five-game losing streak February 2 with a 72-64 home win over Diamond Bar. The Pack finished sixth in Palomares League play at 2-8, 14-14 overall.

 

Girls basketball (17-10)

Claremont lost 64-47 at Saugus in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2 postseason tourney on February 12, capping their season at 8-2 in league, good enough for second place, and 17-10 overall.

 

Boys wrestling (1-4)

The Wolfpack finished out its regular team season January 27 with a 68-12 home loss to Ayala. Senior Matthew Blek placed fourth at the CIF-SS Individual Eastern Division last weekend and is set to compete in the CIF-Masters tournament at Sonora on Friday. Claremont finished the season 1-4 and came in fifth in the Palomares League.

 

Girls wrestling (0-5)

The girls wrestling team completed their season January 27 with a 54-0 home loss to Ayala, finishing sixth in the Palomares League at 0-5.

 

Girls water polo (8-12)

The Pack closed out the season with a 10-7 loss at Walnut on January 20. They finished fifth in Palomares League play at 1-5, 8-12 overall.

 

The Webb Schools

Boys soccer (8-9-2)

Webb lost 2-0 to Palmdale Academy Charter in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 postseason tournament February 11, capping the Gauls’ season with a second place finish in the Academy League at 4-2-2, 8-9-2 overall.

Girls soccer (17-1-1)

The Gauls beat A.B. Miller at home Wednesday, 4-0, sending them to Saturday’s CIF-SS Division 8 tournament semifinal round against the winner of the Environmental Charter vs. Big Bear game. Webb has been near unbeatable this season, compiling a 17-1-1 record and claiming the San Joaquin title with a 14-0-1 league record.

 

Boys basketball (18-5)

Webb’s season ended Tuesday with a 52-32 loss to hosts Salesian in the quarterfinals of the CIF-SS Division 7 postseason tournament. The Gauls beat YULA Yeshiva, 74-71 on February 13, and Thatcher High, 44-38, in earlier rounds. Webb tied for second with Tarbut V’Torah in Academy League play at 4-2, 18-5 overall.

 

Girls basketball (9-16)

The Gauls’ season came to an end February 12 with a 38-32 loss at Santa Clarita Chrisitan in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 9 postseason tournament. Webb finished fourth in the Academy League at 3-4, 9-16 overall.

 

Boys wrestling (2-6)

Webb ended their season January 20 with a 36-6 loss at Sierra Vista, leaving them fifth in the Montview League at 1-5, 2-6 overall.

 

Girls wrestling (1-4)

The Gauls lost at Sierra Vista 36-6 on January 20 to end the year 1-4 and in fifth place in the Montview League.

 

Girls water polo (8-11)

Webb finished the season February 5 with a 15-5 defeat at the hands of Tustin in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 5 postseason tournament. The Gauls beat La Puente 17-1 on January 27, and Baldwin Park 20-7 on January 21, to clinch second place in the Montview League at 6-2, 8-11 overall.
