High school sports round-up: week of August 25, 2023

Claremont High School

Football (0-1)
Claremont was handed a 14-7 loss in its first game of the season, an August 18 nonleague matchup with Diamond Ranch. The team looks to bounce back against Troy at 7 p.m. Friday at home, then at 7 p.m. Friday, September 1 at Los Osos.

Boys and girls cross-country
Both teams open the season at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 2 at the ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational at the Fairplex in Pomona.

Girls tennis
The girls kick their preseason off at Foothill at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, August 31, then host Great Oak at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, September 6.

Girls volleyball (2-2)
The Wolfpack swept West Covina, 3-0, August 17; fell to Upland, 3-0, on August 18; then lost, 3-1, at St. Lucy’s Tuesday, and Wednesday’s match with Arcadia was rescheduled.

Claremont has three away games lined up: 5:30 p.m. Friday at Rancho Cucamonga, Don Lugo at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 29, and Los Osos at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 30.

Girls golf
The Pack hosted Los Osos August 17, but no score was recorded for the scrimmage. Claremont’s trip to Big Bear on Monday was scrapped due to weather.

Chino Hills hosted the Pack after press time Thursday. Claremont welcomes Chino Hills to Marshall Canyon Golf Course at 2 p.m. Monday, August 28.

Boys water polo
Claremont is at Alta Loma at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 27.

 

The Webb Schools

Football
Webb kicks off its preseason at 1 p.m. Saturday by hosting Workman. The Gauls travel to La Puente at 7 p.m. Thursday, August 31.

Boys and girls cross-country
The boys and girls teams are at the Fairplex in Pomona at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 2 for the ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational.

Girls tennis
Webb opens its season at 3:15 p.m. Friday at Edgewood, followed by a 2 p.m. match at Capistrano Valley Christian Tuesday, August 29.

Girls volleyball
The Gauls hosted Magnolia Science Academy Carson August 17 for a scrimmage, and Orangewood Academy came by after press time Thursday.

The team begins Sierra Vista Tournament play at 8:30 a.m. Saturday against TBD opposition at Sierra Vista High School. San Joaquin League action starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 29 at home against Tarbut V’ Torah.

Girls golf
Webb heads to Newport Beach Golf Course at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, August 31 for a nonleague contest with Pacifica Christian.

Boys water polo
The Gauls first match of the season is 3:30 p.m. Friday against Mark Keppel at home, followed by another 3:30 p.m. home match against Chaffey Tuesday, August 29.
