Claremont High School

Baseball (7-4)

A February 15 home contest with Apple Valley yielded a 2-1 win, ahead of 12-0 shutout loss at home against Corona Centennial February 22. The boys then picked up two 3-2 wins, one at Oak Hills February 28 and another against Diamond Ranch March 8.

Lions Tournament results: CHS began March 9 with a 4-0 home loss to Walnut. Play resumes March 25, at Brookhurst Park against McQueen, followed by Canyon Springs at home March 26, then at Ramona March 27. Games are set for 3 p.m.

The team beat Alta Loma, 1-0, on March 11, then again, 6-3, March 13. Alta Loma beat the Pack, 2-1, March 15. CHS beat Glendora, 5-4, Monday, then lost, 7-0, at home to Glendora Wednesday.

Claremont hosts Chino at 3:30 p.m. March 28, then travels to Valencia at 3 p.m. March 29.

Softball (3-7)

Upland tournament: CHS lost, 7-1, against Roosevelt February 15, then fell, 4-0, to Upland the following day.

The team beat Rancho Cucamonga, 10-4, February 23, and Western Christian, 15-4, February 27, then lost to Alta Loma, 6-2, March 1, Etiwanda, 11-2, March 11, Bonita, 7-1, March 13, and Ayala, 10-3, March 15. The Pack beat Alta Loma, 3-2, on Wednesday.

CHS travels to Glendora March 25, St. Lucy’s March 27, then hosts Bonita March 29, with all games at 3:30 p.m.

Boys golf (5-2)

The team beat Rancho Cucamonga, 194-218, February 27, and Chino Hills, 197-215, February 29. The Pack lost to Los Osos March 5, 208-218, and Rancho Cucamonga, 207-209, March 11. It won, 195-249, against Alta Loma March 12, then again March 14, 215-236.

Walnut Tournament results: CHS shot a 399 and finished third among 26 teams.

CHS beat Glendora, 202-214, Tuesday, then hosted Glendora after press time Thursday.

The team hosts Colony at 2:30 p.m. April 9.

Boys tennis (8-6)

Claremont beat Santiago, 10-8, February 15.

Beckman tournament results: CHS lost to Beckman on points, 42-40, after tying on matches, then fell to Woodbridge, 5-3. University thrashed Claremont, 6-2, February 22, then the Pack edged Portola, again on points, 35-31.

The Wolfpack beat Redlands, 14-4, February 27, then lost to Los Osos, 12-6, February 29. CHS beat Alta Loma, 16-2, March 4, Glendora, 14-0, March 7, and Colony, 18-0, March 12. The team lost to Harvard-Westlake, 13-5, March 13, then beat Bonita, 15-3, March 14, and Ayala, 11-7, on Tuesday. Claremont traveled to Alta Loma after press time Thursday.

Diamond Bar hosts the Pack at 3:30 p.m. March 25.

Boys volleyball (11-7)

Results from the February 17 Portola tournament: CHS beat Crean Lutheran, 2-0, then lost to  Pacifica Christian and Los Alamitos, each by a 2-0 score. The day ended with a 2-1 win over Capistrano Valley Christian and a 2-0 win over Laguna Beach.

The Wolfpack beat Burroughs, 3-2, February 20.

Foothill tournament results: a 2-1 win over Mission Viejo February 23 was followed by a 2-1 loss to Downey, a 2-0 win over Yorba Linda, and a 2-1 loss to Santa Margarita on February 24.

The Pack lost, 3-0, to Crescenta Valley February 28, then won, 3-0, at Downey February 29. The team fell, 3-2, to Portola on March 5, 3-1 to Upland. Claremont beat Cathedral, 3-1, March 8, Damien, 3-0, March 12, Chino Hills, 3-0, March 14, and Rancho Cucamonga, 3-0, Tuesday. Claremont hosted Los Osos after press time Thursday.

CHS hosts a tournament beginning at 3 p.m. Friday, continuing at 8 a.m. Saturday against TBD opposition. Damien hosts the team at 4:45 p.m. March 26, then Santiago travels to CHS at 4:30 p.m. March 27.

Swim and dive, boys (2-4) and girls (3-3)

The boys lost to Los Osos, 115-55, February 21, while the girls fell, 99-71. Results from the February 24 Palomares League relays were not made available to the Courier.

The boys lost, 117-52, and the girls won, 95-75, at Etiwanda February 27. Claremont’s boys team beat Western Christian, 137-20, February 29, the girls also won, 111-52. The boys won on a forfeit at Alta Loma March 6. The girls also won, 106-61. Both teams lost to Glendora March 13, the boys, 117-53, and the the girls, 106-64. The boys lost, 99-71, and the girls lost, 92-78, at Bonita Wednesday.

Covina hosts the teams at 3:30 p.m. March 26.

Track and field, boys (2-1) and girls (1-2)

The boys won, 72-64, and the girls lost, 67-63, at Alta Loma March 5. Results from the March 9 Rancho Cucamonga kick-off classic and the March 15-16 California Relays are at athletic.net. Claremont bested Bonita March 12; the boys won, 83-53, the girls, 93-28. Both teams lost to Ayala Tuesday, the boys, 100-36, and the girls, 90-42.

The teams are at Azusa Pacific University March 23, then Covina District Field for the Covina Invitational March 29-30.

 

The Webb Schools

Baseball (11-2)

Webb began the year February 15 with a 17-0 win over Fairmont Prep, followed by 6-1 and 2-1 wins over Avalon February 17. Pacifica Christian beat the Gauls 17-0 on February 23 and 12-3 February 24. Webb has since won eight in a row: 13-0 over Fairmont Prep February 27; 8-2 over Calvary Chapel March 5; 9-0 against Calvary Chapel March 8; two 10-0 wins versus Tarbut V’ Torah March 11 and 13; 11-3 over Mary Star March 15; a 13-3 win at Southlands Christian Monday; and a 11-0 home drubbing of Cal Lutheran on Wednesday.

Southlands Christian drop by at 3:30 p.m. Friday, followed by Western Christian at 3:30 p.m. March 25. Western Christian hosts the Gauls at 7 p.m. March 27.

 

Softball (0-5)

The team has forfeited four games, including February 20 against Orangewood Academy, March 4 with Calvary Chapel, Capistrano Valley Christian March 6, and March 8 with Western Christian. The Gauls lost, 13-0, at Orangewood Academy March 12. Monday’s game with Southlands Christian was rescheduled.

Webb is back at home March 25 versus Calvary Baptist, then Tuesday, March 26 against Samueli Academy. Both games are at 3:30 p.m.

Boys golf (4-1)

The Gauls began the season February 27, beating West Covina, 219-235, then won via forfeit over Vista Meridian March 5. The March 7 game with Pasadena Poly was rained out. The team beat Damien, 216-219, March 12, then Cabrillo, 219-295, before losing to Fairmont Prep, 192-212, on Monday. Webb faced Western Christian after press time Thursday.

Samueli visits at 3:30 p.m. March 26, then Avalon hosts Webb in Catalina March 28. Tee-off time is TBD.

Boys tennis (8-0)

The Gauls began the season with eight wins: Covina, 17-1, February 16; Damien, 16-2, February 23; Garey, 18-0, February 27; Chino, 15-3, March 5; Pasadena Poly, 14-2, March 8; Pacifica Christian, 16-2, March 12; Segerstrom, 14-4, March 15; and Tarbut V’ Torah, 18-0, on Tuesday.

Fairmont Prep comes by at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Pacifica Christian hosts the team at 3:15 p.m. March 25. Webb faces Western Christian at home Tuesday, March 26, at 3:30 p.m. Fairmont Prep hosts the Gauls at 1 p.m. March 28.

Boys volleyball (6-8)

Webb started the season with 3-0 victories over Education First Academy February 20, and Nova Academy February 22.

Results from the February 24 Webb tournament: Damien beat the Gauls, 2-1, as did West Covina, 2-0. Webb then won, 2-1, over Mountain View, and 2-0 against South El Monte.

Webb beat South El Monte again on February 27, 3-0. Samueli Academy beat the Gauls, 3-0, March 5. Webb beat Waverly, 3-1, March 7, but has since lost 3-2 to Calvary Chapel March 8, 3-1 to Southlands Christian March 12, 3-1 to Calvary Baptist March 14, 3-0 at Samueli Academy Monday, and 3-1 to Calvary Chapel on Tuesday.

Newport Christian visits at 4 p.m. March 25. Webb plays the same team a 5 p.m. the next day in Newport Beach, then Southlands Christian at 5 p.m. March 28.

Coed badminton (3-4)

The Gauls beat Education First Academy, 20-1, February 24, Fairmont Prep, 17-4, February 27, and lost to Walnut, 17-4, March 7. Webb lost to Chino Hills, 11-10, March 11, and 11-10 to Rowland March 14. Webb beat Chino Hills, 16-5, on Monday. Diamond Bar beat the Gauls, 19-2, on Tuesday.

Wilson visited after press time Thursday, and will host the Gauls at 3:30 p.m. March 28.

Swim and dive, boys (2-1) and girls (2-1)

The boys beat Chino, 95-64, February 22, as did the girls, 112-56. Both teams lost to Pasadena Poly March 8, 91-61 and 128-46, respectively. They each won, 90-72 and 109-64, against Arrowhead Christian March 12.

Results from the San Joaquin League cluster were not made available to the Courier. The next meet is at 3 p.m. March 28 at Webb.

Track and field, boys (0-0) and girls (0-0)

Webb took third at the February 22 home meet, with the boys scoring 80 points and the girls 75. The boys took second with 105, and the girls third with 51.5 at the February 24 Webb Invitational. Both teams took first with 42, and 41.5 points, respectively, at the March 7 home meet. Results are at athletic.net.

Results from the March 12 San Joaquin League cluster were not made available to the Courier. The next meet is 2 p.m. March 26 at Webb.
