The Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic School’s boys varsity basketball team recently concluded a historic season, going 21-2 and winning a Catholic Youth Organization Mountain East Conference championship under the leadership of head coach Matthew Moffitt and assistant coach Erik Villavicencio.
The Raiders poured in more than 1,120 points, averaging 51 points per game while allowing just 27. Their 21-2 record, total points scored, and point differential are all new school records. The team’s season ended February 28 with 52-38 loss to St. Monica Prep at the CYO Open Division tournament at Salesian High School in Los Angeles.
The season’s tone was set early when the Raiders won the Cantwell Sacred Heart Tournament in December 2025. The team then swept their bracket to win the third annual OLA Classic Tournament.
“This group of young men showed a level of discipline and grit that was evident from our first practice,” Moffitt said. “Winning those two tournaments early on gave us the momentum we needed to face a grueling conference schedule.”
That momentum carried the team into conference play, where OLA dominated, finishing 9-0 and earning the Mountain East championship.
On the perimeter, the team’s floor generals Grayson Moffitt and Lucas Villavicencio dictated the pace, Anthony Cortez shone as its premier three-point shooter, and forward Mattias Arredondo’s tough defense often proved to be the difference maker.
