Prolific Pomona-Pitzer runners win three more titles, coach feted
Pomona-Pitzer’s men’s cross-country team continued its winning ways this fall, taking home three major titles, including its third straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, its sixth consecutive National Collegiate Athletic Association West Region Championship, and the 2023 NCAA Division III men’s cross country national championship.
Nine runners — Lucas Florsheim, Derek Fearon, Cameron Hatler, Colin Kirkpatrick, Jack Stein, Owen Kobett, Ian Horsburgh, Evan Villano, and Peter Neid — earned All-SCIAC honors for their top-20 finishes at the SCIAC championship.
Florsheim, Fearon, Hatler, Stein, and Kirkpatrick took home All-Region honors at the National Collegiate Athletic Association West Region Championship in November.
Four Sagehens, Florsheim, Fearon, Hatler, and Kirkpatrick, nabbed All-American honors at the 2023 NCAA Division III championship.
“Winning three titles in a four-year span has only been accomplished by three other programs in history — North Central College, University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Calvin University,” read a Pomona-Pitzer news release.
The United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association also named the Sagehen’s Amber Williams as the NCAA Division III men’s cross-country coach of the year, earning the honor in her first season as head coach.
