Claremont resident Sam Mowbray, a former
Claremont Unified School District board member
who served from 1990-2006, is the latest
possible candidate to pull papers for the upcoming
board election this fall.
Mr. Mowbray could likely be the 3rd candidate
in this year’s race as current CUSD board
member Hilary LaConte and Claremont resident
Joe Farrell have already begun their paperwork
earlier this month. Ms. LaConte filed
on July 18th.
During Mr. Mowbray’s 16-year tenure on the
board, the Claremont Educational Foundation
(formerly known as EdNet) was formed and
CUSD successfully passed Measure Y in
2000—a $48.9 bond measure that sought to
bring renovation and repairs to district schools.
The former board member decided not to run
for re-election in 2005.
This year’s election features 2 open seats
with the terms of Ms. LaConte and Board President
Beth Bingham set to expire in December.
Both board members began their first terms in
2007.
The filing period will be open through August
12th.
