Delegations from Sumner and Danbury schools, San Antonio High School and the adjoining Community Day School will present their Single Plans for Student Achievement (SPSA) at the next meeting of the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education, set for Thursday, December 6 at 6:30 p.m.

An SPSA is an annual report by a school, updating district representatives and the community on its progress toward goals set in the previous year—such as increased test scores for the entire school population or a significant subgroup of students.

A Claremont High School teacher who fulfilled her ambitious goal of having her art students create a large-scale public art instillation, Anne Mumper, will also take the podium to receive board recognition for her and student team efforts.  Students Isabella Mendoza, Samantha Mutschler, Ngoc Pham, Garrett Shipway and Julian To were among those who worked to install a ceramic mural on the façade of the Big 5 Sporting Goods store on Foothill Boulevard.

Also on the agenda is an informational presentation by Lisa Shoemaker, assistant superintendent of business services, on several money matters including lottery funds; the sale and disposal of books, equipment and supplies; the sale or lease of district-owned real property, and the budget at large.

Next up, Mike Bateman, assistant superintendent of student services, will offer some insight into the lifestyles of local kids with regards to health habits and their level of engagement in at-risk behaviors.  The California Healthy Kids Survey is an anonymous and voluntary student and school staff report. The survey includes information on students’ use of tobacco, alcohol or drugs, school safety and environmental and individual strengths.

It looks like 21 CHS theater students will be heading for The Big Apple after approval of a 6-day field trip, set for April, is on the school board meeting’s consent agenda.

The board, which will also be asked to approve a number of human resource recommendations as well as board policy revisions, looks like it will have a busy evening.

All meetings of the CUSD board of education are held at the Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center located at 170 W. San Jose Ave. in Claremont.
