The Claremont Educational Foundation (CEF) will be recognized for its ongoing support of the Claremont schools at the next meeting of the Claremont Unified School District Board of Education, set for Thursday, October 16 at 6 p.m.

CEF helps fund art, music and technology programs at local elementary schools as well as technology at El Roble Intermediate and Claremont and San Antonio High Schools. Over the last decade, the nonprofit has donated $1.9 million to CUSD, money that has helped to support students’ whole child development. 

At the gathering, Sustainable Claremont will offer additional kudos to three CUSD programs or individuals the organization feels has made exemplary contributions in the area of sustainability. These include Oakmont School’s Biome project; Sumner School for its work with the Green Team and their Earth Day Event; and Nancy Nieman Auerbach, a Scripps professor and CUSD volunteer who oversees San Antonio High School’s Food Justice Program.

Administrators and representatives from Sycamore Elementary and Condit Elementary school will be present at the meeting to present their Single Plans for Student Achievement, reports tracking a school’s progress towards goals set the previous year and outlining their latest priorities.

Also on tap will be a vote by the board to authorize the district to go to bid on the Service Center Relocation Project. In June, the school board determined that the new Service Center should be installed in the southwest corner of the District Office parking lot. According to the meeting agenda, staff is seeking authorization to undertake a formal bid  “on the installation of a pre-engineered building, improvements within the building, all associated underground utilities required to service the building and site improvements to accommodate District vehicles and maximize the parking count.”

Also up for a vote will be approval of the 2013-2014 collective bargaining agreement between the California Employees Association, Claremont Chapter #200 and the Claremont Unified School District. 

The school board will meet in the Board Room of the Richard S. Kirkendall Education Center, 170 W. San Jose Ave. in Claremont.
